8.12 Roll Reversal and Yaw Departure
8.12.1 RoIIReversal
Generally, the ailerons are used for producing rolling motion. Howe'ver, at high
angles of attack, much of the aileron effectiveness may be lost. In addition, the
aileron defiection at high angles of attack may produce significant adverse yaw,
which may lead to the so-called roll reversal phenomenon, in which the aircraft
rolls in the opposite direction to aileron input. The angle of attack at which the roll
reversal occurs can be approximately determined using the following criterion,
called lateral control departure parameter or LCDP.43 The LCDP is derived from
simplified equations for yawing and rolling motions and is defined as follows.
