3.14. ILS sensitive area: An area extending beyond the critical area where the parking and/or movement of vehicles, including aircraft, is controlled to prevent the possibility of unacceptable interference to the ILS signal  during ILS operations. The sensitive area is protected to provide protection against interference caused by large moving objects outside the critical area but still normally within the airfield boundary.

3.15. Touchdown zone (TDZ): The portion of a runway beyond the threshold, where it is intended landing aeroplanes first contact the runway.

3.16. Safeguarding Procedures
Safeguarding Procedures (SP) are the necessary actions to prepare airport for CAT II/IIIA operations (Low Visibility Procedures). They include inspection of airfield ground lighting, termination of all work in progress and removal of all equipment/material from localizer and glide path sensitive area and the maneuvering area, restrictions on the movement of vehicles on the maneuvering area and aprons.

3.17. Low Visibility Procedures (LVP)
Low visibility Procedures (LVP) is the actions to ensure the safe operation of aircraft during periods of reduced visibility or low cloud base. LVP shall only be implemented when SP have been completed and the airport is configured for low visibility operations.
3.18. Fail-operational hybrid landing system: A system which consists of a primary fail-passive automatic landing system and a secondary independent guidance system.  In the event of failure of the primary system, guidance is provided by the secondary system to permit completion of the landing manually.

Chapter 4 – Decision Height and Visual References
4.1 DH for CAT II
The DH specified for a Category II operation will normally be the OCH promulgated for the procedure but, in any case, must not be lower than:
i. The minimum DH specified in the AFM.
ii. The minimum DH to which the precision approach aid       can be used solely by reference to instruments.
iii. The OCH for the category of aeroplane.
iv.
 The DH to which the flight crew is authorized to operate.

v.
 100ft For all Airbus Aircraft with CAT II certification, the minimum DH specified in the AFM is 100 ft.

 

4.2 DH for CAT III
An operator must ensure that the DH for a Category III operation is not lower than:
i.  The minimum DH specified in the AFM.
ii. The minimum DH to which the precision approach aid        can be used solely by reference to instruments.
iii. The DH to which the flight crew is authorized to operate. There is no need to take obstacle clearance into account in the determination of the DH.  A Category III approach ensures that the aircraft is within in the Obstacle Free Zone (OFZ) during the approach and go-around.
