Continuous maximumicing.The maximum continuousintensity of atmosphericicing conditions (continuous maximum icing) is de.ned by the variables of the cloud liquid water content, the mean e.ective diameter of the cloud droplets, the am-bient air temperature, and the inter-relationship of these three variables as shown in (Figure 53.1, p. 718) of this appendix. The limiting icing envelope in terms of altitude and temperature is given in (Figure 53.2, p. 719) of this appendix. The inter-relationship of cloud liquid water content with drop diameter and altitude is determinedfrom(Figure53.1,p.718)and (Figure53.2,p.719).The cloudliquid water contentfor continuous maximumicing conditions of ahorizontal extent, other than

17.4 nautical miles, is determined by the value of liquid water content of (Figure 53.1, p. 718), multiplied by the appropriate factor from (Figure 53.3, p. 720) of this appendix.

Intermittent maximum icing.
