3.15.4 Power Up Procedures. The steps in this
procedure list actions required (and expected CDU
display results) to ready the DNS for flight. Refer to Data
Entry (para 3.15.3 ) for detailed techniques and
parameters of such actions as:
• UTM or L/L Coordinate Entries
• Hover Bias Calibration

a. Display Check.
1. BRT - Rotate control fully clockwise. Observe
brightness change.
2. BRT - Adjust control for best visibility of display.
b. DNS Power On.
1. ADMIN - Press. Observe that the ADMIN Page
is displayed
2. PWR OFF - Press. Observe PWR OFF changes
to PWR ON for three seconds then CDU display
changes to NAV top level present position page.
NOTE
• If PWR OFF changes to PWR --- or the NAV top
level present position page is not displayed after
approximately three seconds, the DNS has
failed.
• If the RAM battery has failed, all navigation data
in the SDCC memory is lost and the following
prompts are automatically displayed on the
FDLS page (fig 3-22).

c. FDLS Test.
1. FDLS - Press. Observe that the Continuous
Test Results - FDLS Page is displayed, as
shown in figure 3-20.
2. TEST - Press. Observe that NAV SYS TEST IN
PROG is displayed until the test is complete and
data is available for DNS test status.
3. If a GO message is displayed (fig 3-21), press
the NAV FAB.
NOTE
The heading, pitch and roll values are calculated and
displayed approximately five seconds after the GO
message.

d. Selecting MODE UTM or L/L and DSPL KM or
KTS. If the operator desires to switch between MODE
UTM and MODE L/L or DSPL KM and DSPL ITS,
perform the following:
1. ADMIN - Press. Observe that the ADMIN page
is displayed.
2. MODE UTM - Press to change to MODE L/L or
vice versa.
3. DSPL KM - Press to change to DSPL KTS or
vice versa.
e. Coordinate Entries for FPLN dictionary.
1. FPLN FAB - Press. Observe that FPLN
dictionary page is displayed.

2. Use up and down arrow keys to scroll to FPLN
dictionary page 1 (locations H, 1 and 2).
3. Use the keyboard to enter H coordinate data into
scratchpad.

4. Press left hand VAB of desired storage location
(H). Observe that the scratchpad is now blank
and the entered data now appears on lines land
2 (H location) of CDU display.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4, entering data and
pressing appropriate VAB for each waypoint to
be entered. Use Down and Up arrow keys to
scroll through FPLN dictionary pages as desired.
6. V FAB - Press to display the NAV top level age
or allow time out to automatically revert o NAV
top level page.
f. Coordinate Entries for PPOS. Coordinate entries
for PPOS data (including magnetic variation and
spheroid) may be entered by two different methods.
(1). Method 1 - Manual Keyboard Entry.
1. Use the keyboard to enter coordinate data into
the scratchpad.
2. VAB 1 - Press. Observe that the coordinate data
now appears on lines land 2 of NAV top level
page display.
(2). Method 2 - Updating to a Stored Waypoint.
1. Enter the number of the stored waypoint into the
scratchpad.
2. FLYTO - Press. Observe that waypoint number now
appears after FLY TO
b. Press top right VAB. Observe that FLY TO changes
to UPDATE TO.
NOTE
The procedure can be aborted by pressing top right VAB.
d. FLYTO - Press. Observe that the present
position coordinate data is now updated to that of the
stores waypoint.
3.15.5 Operating Procedures. When first powered up
the DNS is in navigation mode. Most functions and
modes of operation are accessed via the NAV top level
present position page. Exceptions are the On Command
