LEADING EDGE SLATS - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
1.  General
A.  The trailing edge of the inner skin on each leading edge slat is sprayed with an abrasion resistant teflon coating to protect aluminum surfaces. Refer to Chapter 51, Abrasion Resistant Teflon Finish System, if repair or rework of teflon coating is required.
B.  The leading edge slats may be rigged in any condition, with airplane on or off jacks, with no fuel or any amount of fuel in tanks. However, gap and mismatch tolerances are to be met under the same conditions that slats were rigged.
2.  Equipment and Materials
A.  Corrosion Preventive Compound - MIL-C-11796, Class C (Ref 20-30-21)
B.  Locking Compound Sealer - MIL-S-46163, Type II
C.  Leading Edge Slat Locks - F80048-57 and F80048-79
D.  Spring scale (70 to 85 pounds)
E.  Tape - Scotch X-1155 or Scotch 61 3/4-inch wide (Ref 20-30-51)
3.  Remove Leading Edge Slat
A.  Provide system A hydraulic power (Ref 27-81-0 MP).
B.  Position flap control lever in 1-unit detent to extend slat.
C.  Remove system A hydraulic power (Ref 27-81-0 MP).
D.  Remove fixed wing leading edge lower surface access panels.
E.  Remove seal and access plate at leading edge slat actuator rod end.
F.  Disconnect actuator switches leads at electrical connector, and remove clamps securing leads to slat and anti-icing duct.

G.  Disconnect slat actuator from slat (Detail A, Fig. 401).
H.  Pressurize hydraulic system A (Ref 27-81-0).
I.  Position flap control lever to FLAP UP detent to retract slat actuator.
J.  Depressurize hydraulic system A (Ref 27-81-0).
K.  Manually position slat to align downstops on main slat tracks with holes in track ribs (Section A-A). Remove downstop from each slat track.
L.  Remove auxiliary track follower bearing and detent arm roller (if installed) from end of each auxiliary track.
M.  Roll slat forward and unhook aerodynamic seal from stud at each auxiliary track.
N.  Continue rolling slat forward to free tracks from slat rollers and remove slat from airplane. Telescoping thermal anti-icing duct will be freed as slat rolls forward.
NOTE: Slats No. 1, 2 and 3 weigh approximately 53, 52 and 47 pounds, respectively.
4.  Install Leading Edge Slat
A.  If used bolts or bushings are being installed, check for allowable wear (Ref 27-81-21 I/C).
B.  Check that thermal anti-icing spray tube and telescoping duct is installed in slat. If not, refer to Chapter 36, Pneumatic Ducts, and Chapter 30, Wing Anti-Icing Telescoping Duct. Check that track guide (Section B-B, Fig. 404) and track stop gap (Section A-A, Fig. 404) is 0.14 +0.01 inch. If gap exceeds limits specified, shim as required.
C.  Align inner and outer thermal anti-icing telescoping ducts and auxiliary slat tracks and arms, and install slat by rolling main tracks between rollers in leading edge. Ensure that main tracks roll evenly between rollers without interference and that telescoping ducts mate properly. Connect aerodynamic (sliding) seal hooks to studs on auxiliary track arms before rolling slat all the way back (Detail A, Fig. 401).
