Antenna Drive
The antenna assembly uses one scan stepper motor and one elevation stepper motor for stabilization. Switch S1 connects the left or right motor drive to the scan motor. Switch S2 connects the left or right motor drive to the elevation motor.
With the left WXR RT selected, the left power supply in the antenna assembly energizes the relay to close switch S1. This switch connects the left motor drive to the scan motor. The left motor drive connects to the elevation motor through switch S2. The position of S2 does not change with power from the left power supply of the antenna assembly.
The scan motor moves the scan rotary joint which moves the antenna 90 degrees left and right of the centerline of the airplane.
The elevation motor moves the elevation joint which moves the antenna up and down with a 40 degree elevation range. This elevation range includes 15 degrees up and down for the manual tilt.
Antenna Position Feedback
There are two zero and incremental monitors in the antenna assembly. One for the scan motor and one for the elevation motor. The zero monitors sense the zero or center position of the motor. The incremental monitors count the number of steps the motor moves the rotary joints from the center position. The monitors send antenna position feedback to the WXR RT.

Antenna Position Compare
The WXR RT CPU uses the position information from the monitors to compare the actual antenna position with the desired antenna position. If there is a difference in these two positions, the CPU sets a failure.
Disable Switches
The disable switches are in the antenna assembly. The scan disable switch disconnects the scan stepper motor from the motor drive. The elevation disable switch disconnects the elevation stepper motor from the motor drive.
Because the stepper motors disconnect from the motor drives, the antenna does not move.
An open disable switch does not stop RF transmission from the antenna.

WXR SYSTEM -WXR RT BITE-FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION

General
The CPU in the WXR RT controls the operation of the BITE module. These are the functions of the BITE module:
*
Gets status information from the interface components

*
Gets internally monitored data

*
Does a self-test when it gets a command from the WXR CP or the maintenance access terminal (MAT)

*
Sends a test pattern to the onside AIMS cabinet so it shows on the ND

*
Sends system status data to both AIMS cabinets so the system status data can show on the ND

*
Stores faults in nonvolatile fault memory

*
Sends data to both AIMS cabinets so the CMCF can store it in memory.


Internal Input Monitoring
The BITE monitors these things:
*
Over temperature from the power supply

*
Control and range from the WXR panel on control bus 0

*
Range inputs from the AIMS cabinets on control bus 1 and 2

*
Antenna scan and elevation position from the CPU.


AIMS/CMCS Interface
The BITE continuously sends system status data to the CMCF of AIMS. The CMCF stores this data. Use the maintenance access terminal (MAT) to view the system status data stored in the CMCF.
A WXR system ground test request starts from the MAT. The WXR RT gets the test start command from the left AIMS cabinet. After the RT does the test, it sends the results to both AIMS cabinets. The CMCFs store the results in memory and send them to the MAT. The MAT shows the results.
The air/ground relay defines flight legs if flight legs data from the CMC fails.
Fault Memory
The WXR RT has a nonvolatile fault memory to store faults per flight leg. An input from the CMCF of AIMS defines the start and the end of a flight leg. If the CMCF of AIMS fails, an input from the air/ground relay defines the start and the end of the flight leg.

The WXR self-test function does a test of the WXR system. This test gives the flight crew a way to do a check of the WXR system.
