The basic engine model can be derated to operate at a lower takeoff thrust rating than the thrust limit. The PW4084 can be modified to operate at approximately 74,000 pounds of thrust (PW4074) and approximately 77,000 pounds of thrust (PW4077). To show a difference between the PW4084, the PW4090 and PW4098 engines when these engines are derated, these definitions are used; the PW4084 can be derated to the PW4077 and the PW4074. The PW4090 can be derated to the PW4084D, PW4077D, or PW4074D. The PW4098 can be derated to the PW4090D, PW4084D, PW4077D, or PW4074D.
The internal parts of the PW4084 engine can be different from the internal parts of the PW4090 and PW4098. The internal parts were changed to absorb greater forces because the engine must produce a greater thrust. The kinds of changes include the size and shape, the number of parts, a change in the materials and manufacturing processes to used to make the parts, or a change to a different design part. As an example, between the PW4084 and the PW4090 engines, the difference in weight is approximately 600 pounds. The airplane maintenance manual (AMM) procedures for the PW4084 are different from the PW4090 and PW4098. Use the illustrated parts catalog (IPC) to find if the engine parts can be used on the different engine models. In addition, the engine buildup (EBU) which are the airplane accessories are installed around the engine core, interface with the engine and control the engine, can be different.
In general, the incorporation of the intermix, interchange, subsitution service bulletin requires the procedures that follow:

The modification of the engine to the correct thrust rating with the instructions in the Pratt and Whitney engine manual.

The installation of the correct fan cowl support beam and engine buildup components per the power plant buildup manual (PPBU).

*
The engine oil tank is serviced with the correct oil with the airplane maintenance manual (AMM).

*
The integrated drive generator (IDG) is serviced with the instructions in the airplane maintenance manual (AMM).

*
The engine backup generator is serviced with the instructions in the airplane maintenance manual (AMM).

*
The applicable engine is removed with the instructions in the airplane maintenance manual (AMM).

*
The intermix engine is installed with the instructions in the airplane maintenance manual (AMM).

*
The electronic engine control (EEC) system static test is done with the instructions in the airplane maintenance manual (AMM).

*
The AIMS engine rating validation test is done.

*
If any engine maintenance was done to any engine components on the replacement, intermix engine, additional replacement engine tests, which may include an engine power assurance test, would be required. Use the power plant test reference table in AMM 71-00-00/501 to find what tests are required.
