FAR29.1183:[Lines, .ttings,andcomponents.]
(a) Except as provided in paragraph (b) of this section, each line, .tting, and other component carrying .ammable .uid in any area subject to engine .re conditions and each component which conveys or contains .ammable .uid in adesignated .rezonemustbe .reresistant,exceptthat .ammable .uid tanks and supports in a designated .re zone must be .reproof or be enclosed by a .reproof shield unlessdamageby .retoany non-.reproofpartwill notcause leakageorspillageof.ammable .uid.Componentsmustbeshieldedorlocated so as to safeguard against the ignition of leaking .ammable .uid. An integral oilsump oflessthan[25-quart] capacity onareciprocating engineneednot be .reproof nor be enclosed by a .reproof shield.
(b) Paragraph(a) of this sectiondoes not apply to–
(1)
[Lines, .ttings, andcomponents which are already approved as part of a type certi.cated engine; and]
(2)
Vent and drain lines, and their .ttings, whose failure will not result in or add to, a .re hazard.

FAR 29.1185 : Flammable .uids.
(a)
No tank or reservoir that is part of a system containing .ammable .uids or gasesmaybeinadesignated.rezoneunlessthe .uid contained,thedesignof the system, the materials usedin the tank andits supports, the shuto. means, and the connections,lines, and controlsprovide adegree of safety equal to that which would exist if the tank or reservoir were outside such a zone.
(b)
Each fuel tank must be isolated from the engines by a .rewall or shroud.
(c)
There must be at least one-half inch of clear airspace between each tank or reservoir and each .rewall or shroud isolating a designated .re zone, unless equivalent means are used to prevent heat transfer from the .re zone to the .ammable .uid.
(d)
Absorbent material close to .ammable .uid system components that might leak mustbe covered ortreated topreventthe absorptionofhazardousquan-tities of .uids.
FAR 29.1187 : Drainage and ventilation of .re zones.
(a)
There must be complete drainage of each part of each designated .re zone to minimize the hazards resulting from failure or malfunction of any component containing .ammable .uids. The drainage means must be–
(1)
E.ective under conditions expected toprevail whendrainageis needed; and
(2)
Arranged so that no discharged .uid will cause an additional .re hazard.
(b)
Each designated .re zone must be ventilated to prevent the accumulation of .ammable vapors.
(c)
No ventilation opening may be where it would allow the entry of .ammable .uids, vapors, or .ame from other zones.
(d)
Ventilation means must be arranged so that no discharged vapors will cause an additional .re hazard.
(e)
For category A rotorcraft, there must be means to allow the crew to shut o. thesourcesofforced ventilationinany .rezone(otherthantheenginepower section of the powerplant compartment) unless the amount of extinguishing agent and the rate of discharge are based on the maximum air.ow through that zone.
