Night. The hours between the end of evening civil twilight and
the beginning of morning civil twilight or such other period
between sunset and sunrise, as may be prescribed by the
appropriate authority.
Nore.- Civil nvilight ends in the evening wlzen the centre
of rhe surz's disc is 6 degrees below the horizon and begins in
the morning wlzen the centre of the sun's disc is ddegrees
below the liorimn.
Obstacle clearance aUrIude (OCA) or obstacle clearunce
height (OCH). The lowest altitude or tile lowest height
above the elevation of thc relevant runway threshold or the
aerodrome elevation as applicable, used in establishing
compliance wirh appropriate ohstaclc clearance criteria.
Note I.- Obstacle clearance altitude is referenced to mean
sea level and obstacle clearance hecglzr is referenced to the
threslzolrl elevation or In the case ojnon-precision approaches
to the aerodrorne elevcition or the threslzolrl elevation vfhat 1%
more thun 17 m (7 j?) trelolr. the aerodrome elevation. An
obstacle clearance herght for a circling approach is
referenced to the aerodrome elevation
Note 2.- For convenience when both exprr~ssionsa re used
they may be written in Ihe lorn "obstacle c1ea1-unce

Operational control- The exercise of authority over the
inidation, continuation, dive~siono r termination of a flight
in the interest of the safety of the aircraft and the regulaity
and efficiency of the flight.
Operational flight plan. The operator's plan for the safe
conduct of the flight based on considerations of aeroplane
performance, other operating linlitations and relevant
expected conditions on the route to be followed and at the
aerodromes concerned.
Operations. manual. A manuaI containing procedures,
instructions and guidance for use by operational personnel
in the execution of thcir duties.
Operator. A person, organization or enterprise engaged in or
offering to engage in an aircraft operation.
OperatorP'mazntenance control manual. A document which
describes the operator's procedures necessary to ensure that
all schedded and unscheduled maintenance is performed
on thc operator's aircraft on time and in a controlled and
satisfactory manner.
PiIot-in-command. The pilot designated by the operator, or in
the case of general aviation, the owner, as being in
command and charged with the safe conduct of a flight.
Pressure-aItitude. An atmospheric pressure expressed in terms
of altitude which corre.sponds to that pressure in the
Standard Atmosphere*.
Psychoactive substances. Alcohol, opinids, cannabinoids,
sedatives and hypnotics, cocaine, other psychostimulants,
hallucinogens, and volatile solvents, whereas coffee and
tobacco are excluded.
Repair. The rcstoration of an aeronautical product to an
airworthy condition to ensure that the aircraft continues to
comply with the design aspects of h e appmpriate
ainvorthiness requirements used for the issuance of the type
certificate for the respective aircraft type, after it has been
damaged or subjected to wear.
Required navigaiion performance (RNP). A statement of the
navigation performance necessmy for operation within a
defined airspace.
Note.- Navigation performance and reqziirements are
defined for a particrrlar RNP type and/or rrp~lication.
Rest period Any period of time on [he ground during which a
flight crew memher is relievcd of all duties by the operato*.

Chapter I
RNP type. A containment value expressed as a distance in
nautical miles from the intended position within which
flights would be for at least 95 per cent of the total flying
time.
Example.- RIM' 4 represents a navigation accuracy of
plus or nllnus 7.4 km (4 NM) on a 75 pcr cent containment
basis.
Runway visual range (RVR). The range over wlllch the pilot
of an aircraft on the centre line of a runway can see the
runway surface markings or the lights delineating the
runway or identifying its centre Line.
Small aerophne. An aeroplane of a maximum certificated
take-off mass of 5 700 kg or less.
State of Registry. The State on whose register the aircraft is
entered.
