Any computer that is powerful enough to handle the hardware requirements for
MATLAB and SIMULINK (for detailed information, refer to the website of The Mathworks:
http://www.mathworks.com) should be able to handle the FDC systems comfortably.
Only if your computer is barely able to cope with the demands of MATLAB
itself it may run out of memory when performing intensive FDC simulations. The
toolbox requires at least 2.7 MBytes of free space on your harddisk, although up to
twice that amount of free space may be needed in practice, depending on the filesystem
used and the amount of ‘file slack’ for the relatively large number of small
files. It is, however, highly recommended to have additional space available for data
storage and possible future model enhancements.
These hardware and software requirements may be changed for future versions
of the toolbox. For the most up-to-date information, refer to the website of the
FDC toolbox, http://www.dutchroll.com or http://www.dutchroll.org, and the
README-file that is shipped with the software itself.
7.3 License Agreement
The FDC toolbox version 1.4 is distributed as Open Source software, licensed under
the Open Software License (OSL), version 2.1 or later. A copy of this license has
been included in appendix F and the software itself includes a flat-text copy of the
OSL. (Earlier versions of the toolbox have been distributed under slightly different
licenses, which are now considered obsolete. Redistribution of those versions under
the terms of the OSL version 2.1 or later is considered acceptable.)
The OSL allows you to freely use and distribute the toolbox. It also allows you
to modify the source code, and re-distribute modified files, provided the licensing
terms are not altered. This licensing model was chosen to allow as many people as
possible to freely use, change, and share this software. Unrestricted access to the
source code was deemed essential, as one of the main ‘features’ of this toolbox is its
transparent design, which makes it easier to understand how to put the theory of
flight dynamics modelling into practice, and which provides the flexibility to change
the tools and models if required.

Please take some time to study appendix F before using this software. If, for some
reason, these licensing terms are not suitable or not acceptable for your particular situation,
it is recommended to contact the author to see if a different licensing scheme
can be arranged.

Note: all file and path-notations in this report have been presented inMS-WINDOWS
format. For different operating systems, use the appropriate substitutes. All screenshots
and other examples have been created with MATLAB Release 11 for WINDOWS.
It is possible that newer MATLAB and SIMULINK versions use a different menu structure,
keyboard shortcuts, or default directories, and the referrals in this chapter to
right-click context-menus may be valid for WINDOWS systems only.
The FDC Toolbox is distributed via the FDC website (http://www.dutchroll.com or
http://www.dutchroll.org). It has been packed into a ZIP archive – an installer is
not available. To install the FDC toolbox, the ZIP archive must be unpacked into
an appropriate directory, and the FDC subdirectories must be appended to the MAT102

LAB path by running a dedicated initialisation utility. The following instructions will
guide you through this installation process:
1. Copy the archive file FDC14.ZIP into a temporary directory.
2. Create a suitable destination directory for the FDC toolbox. The recommended
location is a subdirectory FDC14.ZIP within the TOOLBOX directory of MATLAB
but any other dedicated directory would do fine as well. For example, if MATLAB
itself has been installed into C:\MATLAB, the recommended destination
directory for the FDC toolbox would be C:\MATLAB\TOOLBOX\FDC14, but if
you prefer something like K:\MYTOOLS\FDC14 that’s fine also.
3. Unpack FDC14.ZIP into this destination directory. Be sure to retain the FDC
directory structure when unpacking. (If you use the MS-DOS based PKUNZIP
utility, this is achieved by using the -d option on the pkunzip command-line;
newer unpack routines, such as WINZIP or 7ZIP, will normally retain the directory
