so that all options are readily available from the command-line, regardless
of the current working directory.
7.5 Uninstalling FDC 1.4
Although the toolbox does not include an uninstall utility, the uninstall process itself
is straightforward: just delete the entire FDC 1.4 directory, including all subdirectories
(however, be careful not to inadvertently delete important datafiles from the
DATA directory, if you wish to use them later!).
If the FDC directories have been permanently appended to the MATLAB path
by editing PATHDEF.M or STARTUP.M, it will also be necessary to remove the FDCrelated
items from those initialisation files, either by hand, or by using the MATLAB
path browser. The FDC toolbox does not store any information in the Windows
registry or in other directories, and involves no other system-dependencies.

FDCINIT.INI must be deleted from the FDC root-directory. This will cause the FDC initialisation routine

7.6 The FDC directory structure
Let’s take a closer look at the contents of the FDC toolbox, starting with an overview
of its directory structure. The files from this toolbox have been organized in ten
separate subdirectories:
AIRCRAFT contains the nonlinear aircraft model Beaver, the main library FDCLIB,
the aircraft model sublibraries FDCLIB1 till FDCLIB10, and the program MODBUILD,
that defines the parameters for the aircraft model,
APILOT contains several simulation models of the Beaver autopilot, and some related
MATLAB functions,
DATA is used to store FDC datafiles (in particular *.TRI files, which are used to
store trimmed flight conditions, *.LIN files, to store system matrices of linearized
aircraft models, and *.DAT files, to store model parameters),
DOC contains program documentation files (README-file, list of new features, list
of features for future versions of the toolbox, a complete list of all files from the
toolbox, and the software license documents),
EXAMPLES contains some open-loop simulation models and MATLAB demos that
access the aircraft model for open-loop simulations, an analysis of the aerodynamic
and propulsive models, and the computation of an elevator deflection
curve for trimmed flight conditions,
HELP contains the HTML helpfiles for the FDC models and programs,
NAVIGATE contains the library NAVLIB and its sublibraries, which include models
of the ILS and VOR radio-navigation systems,
PROGRAMS contains the trim and linearisation routines, a tool for quick analysis
of the properties of linear systems, routines for post-processing simulation results,
load routines for model-initialisation and quick access to FDC datafiles, the
HTML browse routine that forms part of the on-line help system, and some supporting
routines to determine the screensize, display text-menus, convert numbers
to strings in a nice lay-out, determine the data and help directories, and fix
states in the aircraft model,
TOOLS contains the SIMULINK library FDCTOOLS, which includes several useful
general-purpose blocks that cannot be found in the standard SIMULINK libraries,
WIND contains the library WINDLIB and its sublibraries, which include models of
steady wind and atmospheric turbulence.
7.7 The FDC model libraries
As we will see in the next section, the SIMULINK models in the FDC toolbox have a
layered, modular structure. The subsystems and masked blocks that comprise these
models have been arranged in a series of SIMULINK libraries. A single access-point
to all libraries and simulation models is provided by the main library FDCLIB, shown
in figure 7.7, which can be opened by typing fdclib at the command-line.

FDCLIB includes the six aircraft model sublibraries FDCLIB1 till FDCLIB6, which contain
the blocks from the nonlinear dynamic model of the Beaver. In addition, it provides
links to the following libraries and models:
• the nonlinear six-degree-of-freedom models of the complete aircraft (the
system Beaver and subsystem equivalents of this model),
• the wind and turbulence library WINDLIB,
• the radio-navigation library NAVLIB,
• the open-loop simulation models OLOOP1, OLOOP2, and OLOOP3,
• the closed-loop autopilot simulation models PAH, RAH, PAHRAH, APILOT1,
APILOT2, APILOT3, and the autopilot blocklibrary APLIB,
• the general-purpose library FDCTOOLS,
• the library FBUTTONS, which contains a selection of buttons that have been
