D. APU Internal Oil Leakage
(1)
Examine if the APU oil level is correct (Ref. TASK 49-90-00-600-001). NOTE : An overfilled oil system can cause an APU internal oil-leakage
____ which results in oil smell/fumes in the passenger compartment.
(2)
Do a check for oil at the load-compressor seal drain. If there is oil, an internal oil leakage must be suspected:
(a) Replace the APU (Ref. TASK 49-11-11-000-001) and (Ref. TASK 49-11-11-400-001)
(3)
Examine the load compressor to gearbox interface-area for oil leakage. If there is an oil leakage:
(a)
Clean and degrease the area.
(b)
Start and run the APU for at least 5 minutes (Ref. TASK 49-00-00-860-003).
(c)
Stop the APU (Ref. TASK 49-00-00-860-004).
(d)
Examine the area carefully again.
-use a bright light source or black light to make sure of the oil leakage. If there is an oil leakage replace the APU (Ref. TASK 49-11-11-000-001) and (Ref. TASK 49-11-11-400-001).
(4)
If an APU internal oil-leak or oil ingestion from an external oil-leak is identified:
-remove the APU bleed ducts and inspect internally for oil contamination, before the A/C is returned into service with a repaired or replaced APU.
(a)
If the ducts are contaminated, clean and degrease the ducts and the Load Control Valve.
(b)
Clean the ECS system (Ref. TASK 21-00-00-615-001) or (Ref. TASK 21-00-00-615-002).

E. Fluid Migration in Intake Duct and APU Compartment
(1) Do the steps that follow to detect and/or prevent APU
internal/external fluid leakage:
NOTE : APU internal/external fluid leakage can cause an oil
____
smell/fumes in the cabin.
(a)
Examine the APU air intake and intake duct internally and externally for fluid (engine oil/hydraulic oil/fuel/de-icing fluid) contamination by migration. If contamination is found:
-
clean the air-intake duct and diffuser elbow (Ref. TASK 49-16-00-100-001).
-
clean the air-intake flap internally and externally.
-
clean the APU access doors internally and externally.
-
clean the APU compartment walls and fire bulkheads.
(b)
Examine the APU inlet plenum for oil/fluid contamination. If contamination is found:
-clean the APU inlet plenum with a degreaser and/or steam cleaner.

F. Inspect the APU External Components/Interfaces for OIl Leakage
(1)
Examine the cooling-fan discharge duct for oil contamination.
(a)
Remove the cooling fan discharge duct (Ref. TASK 49-52-51-000-001).
(b)
Examine the inside of the duct for oil contamination. If the duct is contaminated and the inside of the APU inlet plenum is clean, further inspection of the cooling fan is required:
-refer to AI-SIL 49-032 Para 4.1 (GTCP36-300 APU ENGINEERING FIXES).
(c)
Install the cooling-fan discharge duct (Ref. TASK 49-52-51-400-001).
(2)
Examine the genarator to gearbox interface-area for oil leakage. If an oil leakage is found:
-remove the generator and replace the packing (Ref. TASK 24-23-51-000-001) and (Ref. TASK 24-23-51-400-001).
(3)
Examine the pressure-fill and overflow fittings for oil leakage. If oil leaks from:
NOTE : If the pressure-fill fitting is removed/replaced, the gearbox

must first be drained of oil.
(a)
the fitting check valve(s):
-replace the pressure-fill and/or the overflow fitting.
(b)
the fitting(s)/gearbox interface:
-remove the fitting(s) and replace the packing(s) as required.
(4)
Examine the alternator oil-scavenge and the lube-pump pressure-filter housings for oil leakage. If an oil leackage is found at:
(a)
the alternator scavenge-filter housing:
-replace the packing (Ref. TASK 49-91-41-200-001).
(b)
the lube-pump pressure-filter housing:
-replace the packing (Ref. TASK 49-91-45-200-002).
(5)
Examine the magnetic-chip detector for oil leakage. If an oil leakage is found:
-remove the chip detector and replace the packing (Ref. TASK 49-91-42-200-001).
(6)
Examine the oil-sump drain-plug housing for oil leakage. If oil an leakage is found:
