During time interval when mode A flag is in view, activate IDENT on ATC control panel. Verify a blinking indication of both IDENT and code flags on test set.

(5)  
Test altitude reporting as follows:

(a)  
On ATC control panel, select ALT RPTG and ALT source.

(b)  
Connect air data test set to pitot-static system (Ref 34-11-0).

(c)  
Adjust altimeters to 29.92 inches of mercury.

(d)  
Using air data test set and altitude-reporting code list (Fig. 501). Apply a static pressure to obtain test altitudes between 0 and 35,000 feet to verify the following:

 


NOTE:  For each altitude selected, set corresponding code on 476X-3 test set. Observe test set mode C CODE flag appears each time mode C flag appears.
1)  Binary code lines (A1 thru C4 and D4) between transponder and altitude source
are not open or shorted to ground. 2) Appropriate altimeter is within tolerance (Ref 34-12-0). 3) At each altitude, the difference between test set and altimeter does not exceed
± 125 feet.
NOTE: 1. A test altitude above 30,800 feet is required for check of D4 pulse.
2.  The altimeter reading may be increased or decreased to see if 125-ft tolerance can be met PROVIDED the test set continues to display the designated altitude.

(e)  Repeat step (d) decreasing altitude to field elevation.

(6)  
Repeat altitude-reporting test if ATC system has ALT source 1 - 2 selection.

(7)  
Set ATC/function selector to STBY/OFF as appropriate.

(8)  
Open ATC and altitude source circuit breakers if no longer required.

(9)  
Remove electrical power if no longer required (Ref 24-22-0).


4.  System Test - ATC System - Using TEL-Instruments T-33B Test Set
A.  General
(1)  The system test is a complete system checkout of the ATC. The first part of the system test consists of the performance of all tests possible using only the built-in test capability of the equipment installed in the airplane (operational test). The balance of the system test requires the use of an ATC ramp test set.
B.  Equipment and Materials
(1)  ATC Transponder Ramp Test - T.I.C. T-33B

D.  Test ATC System Using T-33B Test Set
(1)  
Perform ATC system operational test provided in 34-53-0, ATC System - Adjustment/Test.

(2)  
Prepare to Test ATC System


NOTE:  Steps (2)(a) thru (3)(h) are to be performed for receiver sensitivity checks. Otherwise, perform steps (3)(i) thru (4).
(a)  
Remove appropriate ATC antenna (Ref 34-53-11).

(b)  
Using a T-33B tester ONLY, connect antenna end of transmission line to tester as follows: 1) Connect six-foot test cable to BNC jack on tester.


CAUTION:  NEVER CONNECT TEST CABLE TO THE CONNECTOR ON TESTER AS TESTER WILL BE DAMAGED. ALSO, ANTENNA (IN COVER) MUST BE DISCONNECTED FROM TNC JACK AND PROTECTOR CAP MUST BE INSTALLED ON THIS TNC CONNECTOR TO PREVENT RADIATION OF SIGNALS.
2)  Using proper between-series adapter, connect other end of test cable to ATC antenna transmission line.
(c)  
Position test set controls as follows:

RCVR SENS - 65 1090 MHz - Zero REPLY/SLS -100% MODE -3/A READOUT -PILOT

(b)  
Turn on test set. Ascertain BATTERY CHECK meter is in white portion of scale. If not, recharge battery from a 115V AC 50-400 Hz source.

NOTE: It is permissible to operate test set while battery is being charged.
(3)  Test ATC System
(a)  
Close following circuit breakers on panels P6 and P18:
1) ATC-1
2) ATC-2 (if installed)
3) Altitude Source (ALTIMETER or CADC)


(b)  
Activate ATC system to be tested in Mode A with ALT RPTG off and code 0000 selected.

(c)  
On test set, adjust RCVR SENS control for a meter reading of 90%. Sensitivity as read on test set dial must be -73 ± 4 DBM.

(d)  
Select ALT RPTG on cockpit ATC control units and MODE C on test set.

(e)  
Repeat step (c). Sensitivity must be within 1 dB of MODE A sensitivity.
