F. Remove the bolts and washers attaching drip pan to heat shield and position drip pan out of the way for removal of the aft fairing assembly.
G. Disconnect bonding jumper from frame member below forward end of heat shield.
H. Install pusher plate assembly in forward end of muffler by inserting spring clips and pressing firmly (Fig. 402, Detail A).
I. Position the two flange assemblies against the forward face of the stiffener angle of the upper shroud bellmouth and hold in place with one flange retainer assembly installed on left-hand side.
J. Place reaction plate assembly on the aft face of the stiffener angle.
K. Position threaded studs in reaction plate assembly slots.
L. Clamp reaction plate assembly to flange assembly by hand tightening lock nuts.
M. Thread the push rod assembly through the reaction plate assembly until the pusher plate assembly is contacted.
N. Remove screws attaching aft fairing to tail cone (Fig. 401).
O. Rotate push rod assembly until aft fairing assembly disengages from shroud (push rod assembly should move approximately three inches for a gap to occur between the fairing and fuselage) (Fig. 401, Detail A).
P. Remove aft fairing assembly.
Q. Remove APU heat shield installation/removal equipment from aft fairing assembly.
R. If required, remove the exhaust duct muffler (AMM 49-81-11/401).
5. Install Aft Fairing Assembly (Fig. 401)
A. If not already installed, install the exhaust duct muffler (AMM\49-81-11/401).
B. Position aft fairing assembly on tail cone.
CAUTION: ON AIRPLANES WITH THE FIRE DETECTION ELEMENT, CARE MUST BE TAKEN SO THAT THE ELEMENT FOR THE HEAT SHIELD WILL NOT BE DAMAGED.
C. Install flange assembly and reaction plate assembly per steps 4.I. thru 4.L. (Fig. 402, Detail B).
D. Assemble the take-up rod and rod extension assembly.
E. Install take-up rod in reaction plate assembly and insert the rod handle which is stored on the reaction plate.
F. Put the puller plate assembly into the exhaust pipe against the end of the exhaust duct muffler and over the end of the rod extension assembly. Secure with pressure pad assembly and ball lockpin.
G. Turn the take-up rod until the aft fairing assembly has moved at least three inches in the shroud bellmouth and fairing is snug against the fuselage contour.
H. Install and tighten screws attaching aft fairing to tail cone (Fig. 401).
I. Remove APU heat shield installation/removal equipment from aft fairing assembly.

J. Attach drip pan to heat shield with bolts and washers.
K. Connect bonding jumper to the frame member below forward end of heat shield.
L. Connect electrical connectors to the fire detection elements of the heat shield and the exhaust duct muffler.
M. AIRPLANES WITH THE DUCT ALIGNMENT ASSEMBLY; Install the duct alignment assembly to the brackets:
(1)
Apply the antiseize compound to the threads of the bolts.
(2)
Attach the duct alignment assembly to the brackets with the bolts.
N. Install and secure access panel 3802.
O. Install the APU (AMM 49-11-0/401).
P. AIRPLANES WITH THE DUCT ALIGNMENT ASSEMBLY; Make sure there is a minimum clearance of 0.75 inch between the exhaust duct muffler and the exhaust port of the APU turbine section.
(1)
If it is necessary, adjust the bolts that attach the duct alignment assembly to the brackets until the clearance is correct.
(2)
Tighten the bolts that attach the sliding nuts in the groove of the duct alignment assembly.
Q. AIRPLANES WITH THE DUCT ALIGNMENT ASSEMBLY; Install the caps to the drip pan:
