If necessary, clean the threads of the igniter plug boss with the PWA 24524 chasing tap.

(1) Do the immersion depth check of the igniter plug (Fig. 602)
(a) Install a new tab washer on the larger diameter side of the igniter plug boss with the keys in the direction of the boss.

(b) (c) (d) (e) Install the igniter plug boss and the key washer on the igniter plug. 1) Tighten the igniter plug boss with your hand.Measure the dimension from the igniter plug end to the bottom face of the igniter plug boss (Dimension X). 1) Make a note of Dimension X for calculation of Dimension Z.Disassemble the key washer and the igniter plug boss from the igniter plug.Measure the immersion depth of the igniter plug as follows: 1) Put the gage master between the gage hook and the gage base.
2) a) Set the gage indicator bezel to zero.Put the gage into the igniter plug port in the diffuser case, until the gage base touches the face of the case boss.
3) Turn the gage base to get a good view of the dial gage face.
4) 5) 6) 7) Hold the gage base and turn the probe until the notch in the probe disk points aft.Push the probe and move the gage in the direction of the aft end of the engine.Put the gage hook against the aft inner diameter of the outer combustion chamber (view A).Release the probe and make a note of the value that shows on the dial gage. a) Subtract the gage value from 2.200 inches (55.880 mm), if the value is less than zero.
b) Add the gage value to 2.200 inches (55.880 mm), if the value is more than zero.
c) Make a note of the result value as Dimension Y for calculation of Dimension Z.
(f) 8) Add 0.125 inch (3.175 mm) to Dimension Y. 9) Subtract that total from Dimension X. 10) Make a note of the result value as Dimension Z.Use one or two classified spacers from Table 601 to get Dimension Z |0.010 inch (0.254 mm). 1) Use a maximum of two spacers for each igniter plug.
NOTE:____ The total thickness of the spacers can not be more than 0.300 inch (7.620 mm) at each igniter plug location.
