General
There are 32 tank units in the fuel tanks. There are 12 tank units
in main tank 1 and 12 tank units in main tank 2. There are 8 tank
units in the center tank.
There is one compensator in each tank.
Tank Units
The tank units measure fuel weight. The fuel quantity processor
sends a common low impedance excitation signal to the tank
units. The tank units return a single high impedance signal to
the processor. This high impedance return signal is in
proportion to fuel weight for the entire tank.
Compensators
The compensators correct for differences in fuel properties. The
fuel quantity processor sends a low impedance signal to each
compensator. The compensators return a high impedance
signal to the processor. This high impedance return signal is in
proportion to the dielectric of the fuel.
Each compensator is in the low point of its fuel tank. For most
operations, fuel completely covers the compensator. The high
impedance return signal from each compensator changes only
for differences in fuel dielectric.

General
There is one densitometer in each tank. The densitometers
measure fuel density.
The densitometers supply a check of the compensator specific
gravity. This data gives the fuel quantity indicating system
(FQIS) an accuracy of approximately one percent.
There are eight terminals on the densitometer. The
densitometer uses these four terminals to receive and send
data from the fuel quantity processor unit (FQPU):
* Sense
* Sense shield
* Drive negative
* Drive positive.
The other four terminals (KR0, KR1, KR2, and KR3) supply a
reference calibration resistance. The calibration resistance
compensates for manufacturing tolerances. The calibration
resistance is set at the factory and is not line maintenance
adjustable.
Location
All three densitometers are in the lowest part of the fuel tank so
that they are always covered with fuel. The main tank
densitometers attach to rib 5 in the aft portion of the tank. The
center tank densitometer attaches to spanwise beam number
one, to the right of centerline. Spanwise beam number one is
the aft beam in the center section.
Functional Description
Each densitometer contains a vibrating spool transducer in a
alloy housing. Holes in the housing allow fuel to cover the spool.
The densitometer is active during the fueling process. The
FQPU uses the last calculated fuel density value when the
fueling process is complete.
The FQPU sends an ac signal through a drive coil for excitation
of the spool. The spool vibrates at its resonant frequency. The
FQPU reads the frequency of the signal with a sense coil.
Changes in fuel density change the resonant frequency. The
