Trainz Simulator 2009 is another new version of a
long-running rail simulation which allows users to
drive a varied selection of routes from around the
world. Terrain detail is now four times higher than
in the previous incarnation, it boasts improved
graphical capabilities, offers far greater flexibility,
and features much improved physics – i.e. the
way the virtual locomotives handle compared to
their real-world counterparts.
Our recent rail simulation add-ons have all been
developed for Rail Simulator and most of them are
being updated for compatibility with its successor,
RailWorks. They are all available as Downloads,
and this foolproof method of instant delivery has
proved every bit as popular with rail enthusiasts
as it has with virtual pilots.
Locomotives and rolling stock are the obvious
choices for add-ons which can be used on the
default Rail Simulator and RailWorks routes.

Scenarios & sounds
Scenarios – a particularly enjoyable feature of rail
simulation – are activities and tasks designed to give
you a chance to put the rolling stock through its paces
in typical realistic situations. The scenarios supplied
with Class 66, for example, will have you hauling coal,
flatbed wagons, beer and fuel over various routes and
through different rail yards, with stops to be made and
instructions to be followed.
Our Scenario PlusPak provides a set of six scenarios
on various lines; these have different difficulty
levels and take from 20 minutes to over an hour
to complete.
The search for realism even extends to the audio
aspect of rail simulations, so we released Rail
Simulator sound packages for the MTU and VP185
powered HST 125 to provide improved versions of its
distinctive sounds, all of which were professionally
recorded from the real locomotives.

Simulations of real-world routes are always popular.
Our Severn Valley Railway add-on for Microsoft
Train Simulator re-creates all 16 miles of this
legendary steam railway line and comes with official
endorsements from the National Railway Museum and
the Severn Valley Railway. The inclusion of 13 steam
locomotives delighted steam enthusiasts, who also
enjoyed our West Somerset Railway expansion for
Train Simulator.
The Isle of Wight’s unique rail transport system proved
to be a wonderful subject for a recent expansion for
Rail Simulator. The ex-London Underground rolling
stock dating back to the 1930s which is used on the
island has long been a source of fascination for rail
enthusiasts, and the inclusion of the island’s steam
railway, wonderfully detailed scenery, the famous
‘Invincible’ steam locomotive and 17 scenarios make
this a must-have expansion.
