A. The flight director command switching connects roll and pitch attitude commands from selected autopilot/flight director roll and pitch computers to flight director command bars on the attitude director indicators (ADI) The command bars deflect in response to heading and course eviation signals which indicate to the pilot the aircraft attitude changes necessary to fly the correct heading or course.

A. The VOR/ILS navigation system determines airplane position with respect to ground-based VHF omnidirectional range (VOR) stations and instrument landing systems (ILS) and provides this information to displays on the pilots' flight instruments and to the autopilot/flight director system. The VOR portion of the system determines the bearing of the VOR ground station with respect to the aircraft. The ILS portion of the system determines lateral (localizer) deviation and vertical (glide slope) deviation of the aircraft relative to the airport runway.
11. Marker Beacon System (34-32-00) Bendix MKA-28C, (AT ALL)

A. The marker beacon system provides the pilots with a visual and aural indication when the aircraft is directly over airways fan markers, station location Z markers, and ILS middle and outer markers.
12. Low Range Radio Altimeter System________________________________(34-33-00) TRT AHV-5
A. The low range radio altimeter (LRRA) supplies vertical position information to a remote height indicator and (below 200 feet) an ADI during approach and landing phases of flight operation. The system transmits a continuous signal of varying frequency to the ground which is reflected back to the aircraft and mixed with a portion of the transmitting signal. The resultant beat frequency signal is proportional to aircraft altitude and is displayed in analog form on the height indicator.
13. Inertial Navigation System (34-41-00) Delco Carousel IV and IV A

A. The inertial navigation system (INS) automatically determines the navigation and attitude data of the airplane to keep the airplane on a predetermined course. External data inputs to the INS may include barometric altitude and true airspeed from the central air data computer (CADC). (In addition to barometric altitude and true airspeed the CIV A navigation system may be provided with distance data from DME systems.) However, the INS may operate without external data inputs. The navigation data is displayed on flight instruments, allowing the flight crew to fly the airplane to the INS reference. The data is also supplied to the autopilot systems (Chapter 22), allowing the airplane to be automatically flown along the computed course if the autopilot/flight director is operated in the INS NAV mode.
B. On airplanes with performance management system (PMS) installed, the PMS provides waypoint control over the inertial navigation system so that waypoint data (for horizontal navigation) can be entered at the PMS CDU instead of at the INS CDU.

The PMS receives distance data from the DME system, which is used to update the displayed present position in both the PMS and INS.
14. Weather Radar System (34-43-00) RCA AVQ-30X

A. The weather radar system presents the pilots with a visual radarscope display of weather conditions ahead of the aircraft. This presentation in terms of range and azimuth enables course changes to be made to avoid turbulent areas. A mapping mode is also included for radarscope presentation of terrain features.

A. The central instrument warning system (CIWS) monitors warning flag signals from the other navigation systems and displays failure of the flag signals on a separate CIWS annunciator. The system also detects and annunciates selected out-of-tolerance conditions using flight instrument information.
