 B. Inspection of the Magnetic Plug Probe (90).
 NOTE : Before examination for metal particles, carefully prevent a
____ further contamination of the magnetic plug probe by metal particles from the tool box or work area.
 (1) Examine the magnetic plug probe for the quantity and type of the contaminants. If the contaminanition you see on the probe looks important, do as follows:
R **ON A/C 001-049, 062-099, 101-101, 106-149, 151-199, 204-299, 301-399, R 401-499,

 NOTE : Carbon and dirt may form sludge on the probe along with metal
____ particles, and cause misleading appearance in the quantity of contamination.
 (a) Clean the probe with tissue paper and retain the removed particles.

 (b) Examine the metallic contaminants under a 10-power magnifying glass. Use the inspection criteria which follow :

 1 A small accumulation of fine slivers and relatively flat
_ flakes of metal shows a normal wear.
 2 A larger accumulation of particles, or particles larger than
_ 0.1 in. (2.54 mm) in any direction, show there is some internal damage and that a starter replacement is necessary. (Ref. TASK 80-11-10-000-002) and (Ref. TASK 80-11-10-400-002).

 C. Installation of Magnetic Plug after Inspection.
 (1) Remove and discard the two O-rings (100).

 (2) Lubricate two new O-ring (100) with engine oil (Material No. CP2442) and put them on the knurled magnetic plug (90).

 (3) Install the knurled magnetic plug (90) in oil drain plug (110):

 (a) Push inward and turn clockwise to engage locking device.

 D. Inspection of Starter External Surfaces.
 (1) Visually make sure there are no signs of oil leakage from the starter housing. If you find oil leaks, replace the starter (Ref. TASK 80-11-10-000-002) and (Ref. TASK 80-11-10-400-002).

 (2) Visually make sure there are no signs of oil leakage between the starter housing and the items which follow:

 - Oil fill plug adapter (50)

 - Oil overflow plug adapter (60)

 - Oil drain plug adapter (110)

 (a) Oil leaks past these adapters could be caused by defective O-rings below them. If you see any oil leakage, replace starter (Ref. TASK 80-11-10-000-002) and (Ref. TASK 80-11-10-400-002).

 (3) Visually make sure there are no oil leaks from the knurled oil fill plug (30) and the knurled overflow plug (80) and the knurled magnetic plug (90) of oil drain plug. If leaky, remove them and make sure:

 - O-ring (40) is installed and/or is in good condition

 - O-ring (70) is installed and/or is in good condition

 - O-rings (100) are installed and/or are in good conditions (30) or

 (80) or (90). Install plugs by hand. Make sure of positive retention by their bayonet attachment system.

 (4) Make sure that adapters (50) and (60) are correctly lockwired.

 (5) Make sure that the chains (or cables) which keep the plugs (30) and

 (80) are in place and in good condition.
