 (2) STRIPMASTER Tools or Equivalent (Ref. Fig. 004)

 (a) Conditions of application Manual insulation stripping with STRIPMASTER Tools or Equivalent is allowed
 for :
 - wire gauge 12 to 26, - single core cables or each element of a multicore cable that is a singlecore cable.
 (b) Insulation stripping Procedure (Ref. Fig. 004) - The end of the cable must have a clean cut.
 - Determine the stripping length to be applied to the cable (in general rules, the wire must be visible through the inspection hole.
 (Ref. Fig. 001) - Determine the cavity to be used depending on the wire gauge of the cable to be stripped. - Position the wire centrally in the appropriate cavity. - Fully squeeze the tool handles. - Release the handles for opening the blades and remove the stripped wire. - After stripping, the wire strands should be twisted together in the same direction as the normal lay of the wire.

 D. Specific requirements and faults for Stripping (Ref. Fig. 005)
 (1)
 General requirements and faults :

 (a)
 Before stripping Do a check for defects on the cable, a cable showing no damage to preserve its mechanical and electrical characteristics. The cable end must be clean cut, straight and perpendicular to the cable length. The tool used must be in the correct operating condition and be applicable to the cable type.

 (b)
 During stripping The cable must be held perpendicular to the knives and the insulator separation must be parallel to the cable center line.

 (c)
 After stripping The stripped cable end must be almost immediately connected to prevent damage to the strands of the stripped area. The stripped length must enable the end component specified to be correctly connected. Straight cut of the core, perpendicular to the axis of the cable. There must be no marks on the core of the stripped wire, no visible base metal and the strands must not be marked, cut or damaged. It is not permissible. The insulation remaining on the cable must be free from damage to the insulation. The insulation must be cleanly cut and not start tears or unwanted untwining of the insulating sheath. If the wire is damaged, cut off the damaged section and re-start the stripping operation.

 (2)
 Particular requirements for specific cables :

 (a) Aluminum cables Very strict instructions concerning the risks of cable oxidation must be applied. If possible cut the end of the cable and check that the strands are free from oxidation spots. Shrink a heat shrink sleeve on the cable end and hot pinch this sleeve to make sure it is sealed to protect it if it is not used. The stripping length is the same and given in the topic relevant to the end components.

 (b)
 Coaxial cables Special care must be taken to strip a coaxial or triaxial cable, not to damage the strands during the successive screening or core stripping phases, so that the cable characteristics are not modified (impedance). The screening must be exclusively stripped first with a scalpel and then with scissors to cut the cable screening(s) to the length. The core of a coaxial or triaxial cable must also be stripped with a scalpel or an equivalent tool. In the case of a two wire coaxial cable, once the screening is cut to the length, each conductor must be dealt with as a single conductor and the Stripmaster pliers can be used if the core plus the insulator diameters allows it. Some coaxial cables are fitted with an anti signal protection on the core insulation. This protection must be removed. The coaxial and triaxial cable stripping lengths depend on the end component to which the cable is to be connected. These lengths are given in the topic relevant to these end components.

 (c)
 Specific cables Example : Extensible cables used for sliding windows or interphones, some thermocouple cables, multifunction mixed cables (coaxial and screening cables in the same tubing), antenna cables, specific insulation hight temperature cables, etc... The stripping method depends on the end component or the conductor itself, refer to the paragraph which conserns the conductor to be connected or to the topic relevant to the end components.
