The ground speed (GS) function is a one page display used to compute ground speed and wind, or time and distance to a waypoint. The ground speed function is only accessible in the CRZ or CON flight modes. An INVALID message will appear if a time or distance value is entered that exceeds time or distance to reserve fuel.

The RANGE functions display total endurance, distance and time remaining to reserves plus alternate fuel, distance and time to empty tanks, and wind component. Alternate flight levels may be entered for investigation. Page 1-5, RNG ECON, computes values for an economy speed schedule. Page 2-5, RNG LRC, computes values for a long range cruise speed schedule. Page 3-5, RNG MAN, computes values for manually entered speed schedules. Page 4-5, RNG ENG OUT, computes values for an engine out schedule. Pages 3-5 and 4-5 also display mach and airspeed. Page 5-5, RNG HOLD, displays only endurance time to reserves plus alternate fuel weight and empty weight at flight level displayed for a race track holding pattern. Page 5-5 is the initial display if the HOLD mode is selected and RNG is addressed. If zero fuel weight or reserves are not entered, LOAD DATA will be displayed. The RANGE functions are accessible in the CRZ, CON, or HOLD modes only.

The FUEL functions display distance, reserve plus alternate fuel weight (RSV +ALT), fuel over destination (FOD), wind component and total fuel weight. Page 1-4, FUEL ECON, computes FOD for a cruise economy speed schedule. Page 2-4, FUEL LRC computes FOD for a long range cruise schedule. Page 3-4, FUEL MAN, computes FOD for a manual speed schedule. Page 4-4, FUEL E/OUT, computes FOD for a continuous, engine out speed schedule. The FUEL functions are accessible in the CRZ or CON modes only. If computed FOD for distance entered is less than zero then INVALID appears for FOD.

The temperature (TEMP) function has two pages. Page 1-2, TEMP displays ISA . (deviation from standard atmospheric temperature), total air temperature (TAT), static air temperature (SAT), and true airspeed (TAS). Page 2-2, TEMP, displays calculated ISA . or static air temperature for given flight level. If a parameter value inserted on page 2 falls outside the established limits for that parameter, INVALID is displayed. If the sensed TAT falls outside the specified limits, the OUT OF LIMIT error message is displayed on page 1.

The one page VREF function displays reference speeds for landing for various flap settings at the current airplane gross weight. The gross weight can be manually updated to obtain speeds at a predicted weight.

The one page TRIP function displays distance, ISA ., wind component and trip flight level. LOAD DATA appears if zero fuel weight, flight index, or distance to elevation is not entered. After entry of distance, the optimum trip flight level is displayed.

The WIND function displays computed and manually entered wind data.

(a)  
On airplanes with Omega system interface, the WIND function displays 4 pages. Page 1-4, WIND ., displays wind speed information generated from the Omega navigation system. The displayed Omega wind value normally automatically updates other PDCS pages displaying wind values unless an alternate wind page is selected. If the Omega ground speed valid signal is invalid, the Omega wind display blanks and other PDCS pages display the last valid Omega wind value until the failure is rectified or an alternate wind page is selected. The Omega wind page is automatically selected at system turn-on. Pages 2-4, or 3-4, WIND AUTO, display DME velocity, computer wind and update status for DME 1 input or DME 2 input respectively. Page 4-4, WIND MAN, generates wind speed from manually entered values of wind direction, wind velocity and airplane course direction.

(b)  
A positive wind entry indicates a head wind and a negative entry indicates a tail wind.

(c)  
Omega wind values are automatically updated, but DME wind values require updating. The UPDATE entry is used to select the wind page that updates the wind values. To update all pages, position the caret next to UPDATE . . . NO, press CLR to change NO to YES, and press ENT to enter yes into the computer. When YES is displayed on the AUTO and MAN wind pages, the displayed WIND value is frozen. Selecting another page or mode changes the YES to NO and the computer retains the frozen wind value until the wind value is again updated. When within 5 miles of the DME station, no data is displayed.
