 F. Repair the Cracks in the Acrylic Lens of the Middle Fairing

 CAUTION: YOU MUST BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DRILL THE ACRYLIC LENS, THE
_______ ACRYLIC LENS CAN HAVE A CRACK EASILY. IT IS BETTER IF YOU DRILL PRACTICE HOLES IN 0.10 -INCH THICK, PLEXIGLASS 55 SHEET MATERIAL. IF YOU ARE NOT CAREFUL TO DRILL THE ACRYLIC LENS, YOU CAN CAUSE A CRACK IN THE LENS.
 (1)  Drill a hole at the end of the crack.
 NOTE:____Use a drill speed of 1200 to 1500 RPM. Cutters should be kept at a near room temperature when drilling successive holes.

 (2)  
Sand the hole to make it smooth and to remove all the cracks or chips in the acrylic.

 (3)  
Cut a 0.10 inch thick Plexiglass 55 plug to attach the hole that is drilled in the acrylic correctly.

 NOTE: The attachment must be accurate.

 (4)  Use this procedure to plug the hole.
 (a)  
Bond the plug in the lens with one of the cements.

 (b)  
Use the 240 grit moist or dry paper to make the mating surface rough.

 (c)  
Clean the mating surface with the aliphatic naptha or soap and water.

 (d)  
Clean with the aliphatic naptha

 (e)  
Let the mating surfaces dry.

 (f)  
Mask the area around the crack to 1/32 inch with the tape.

 (g)  
Apply a light layer of the adhesive to the two mating surfaces.

 (h)  
Connect the surfaces immediately after the coating.

 (i)  
Rub the unwanted cement on the masking material if it is possible.

 (j)  
Put the cellophane covers on the cement that you can see.

 NOTE: The cement will not dry because the cellophane will
____ give the cement protection from the air.

 (5)  
Machine the parts bonded with PS-18 after five hours at room temperature.

 (6)  
Dry the parts bonded with EC-2216B/A for 24 hours at room temperature, or 130 |10 minutes at 160 |10°F before you use them.

 (7)  
Do these steps to repair the initial surface smoothness:

 (a)  
When you repair a crack, remove the mask.

 (b)  
Flush the area with clean water to remove the dirt and the grit.

 (c)  
Clean with the soap and water.

 NOTE: You can use a soft cloth, or chamois when you

 clean the area that you repaired.

 (d)  
Use your bare hand to find all the adhesive left in the area that you repaired and remove it.

 (e)  
You must use a clean moist chamois to dry the area.

 (f)  
You can use a clean cotton-flannel cloth carefully.

 NOTE: You must be careful not to rub the acrylic after it
____
 is dry.

 (g)  Remove the oil and the grease.
 NOTE: You can do that when you rub the area lightly with a
____ cloth moist with the aliphatic naptha. You must not rub the acrylic plastics with a dry cloth.
 (h)  
To remove dust or electrostatic charges, do this step:

 1)  Rub the surface with a clean, moist chamois or a clean, moist cotton-flannel cloth.

 (i)  
Dry the surface with a clean cotton-flannel cloth.
