Transportation Stand
You lower the engine and cradle down to the transportation stand. Use the forward bootstrap assembly to change the roll angle of the engine to align it with the stand.
CAUTION:  YOU MUST LOWER THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE BEFORE THE AFT END. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE TO THE STRUT AND ENGINE CAN OCCUR.
Power Plant Removal
This is a summary of the tasks necessary to remove a power plant:

Prepare the airplane for an engine change by doing all the necessary safety and disconnect tasks and open the access panels

Install the ground handling adapters on the engine

*
Install the bootstrap equipment on the strut

*
Position the cradle and transportation stand under the engine

EFFECTIVITY

Raise the cradle and the transportation stand with the bootstrap equipment to center the stand under the engine and strut

*
Lower the transportation stand and disconnect the cradle from the stand

*
Raise the cradle from the transportation stand with the bootstrap equipment

*
Attach the cradle to the engine ground handling adapters

*
Use the bootstrap hoists remove the tension load from the engine mount bolts

*
Remove the engine mount bolts to disconnect the engine mounts from the strut

*
Lower the engine and cradle onto the transportation stand.

The airplane strut is designed to be perpendicular to the wing, so the power plant is mounted at the same angle as the strut because of the wing dihedral angle. The power plant is also mounted at a small pitch up angle; the front is higher than the aft end.

TIP -POWER PLANT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

When the engine mount bolts are removed, the power plant is lowered a short distance with the hoists to disengage the alignment shear pins in the forward engine mount from the strut and the aft engine mount from the alignment shear pins in the strut. After the shear pins are disengaged, lower the engine until you have clearance with the strut because of the pitch, then level the power plant and cradle before you lower it to the ground with the hoists. Use the forward bootstrap assembly to change the roll angle of the engine so that the power plant and the cradle are level to the ground and the transportation stand. Always watch for clearance problems with the power plant, the bootstrap equipment and the strut.
Use extreme care when you lower the power plant with the hoists. This bootstrap equipment uses a 4 point hoist system. With the cradle and power plant level, make sure all the hoists are operated at the same rate to keep the cradle level as you lower it. If the hoists are not operated at the same rate, you can pitch or roll the power plant and cradle so that the cradle will not be able to engage the transportation stand.
