A.  The chapter sequence system uses a three element number (XX-XX-XX). This sequence system shows the chapter, followed by the section, followed by the subject.
B.  The sequence of the chapters in this document is the equivalent of the sequence used in an airplane recovery.

A.  Chapter 1-00, INTRODUCTION
This chapter shows the general data available for an airplane recovery. Use this data with the procedures in the subsequent chapters. The basic items included in this chapter are:

Chapter 2-00, SURVEY AND PREPARATION

(1)  
You start the recovery with a first inspection. This chapter shows that first inspection of the airplane and of the adjacent area. The first inspection will help you prepare for the recovery. This chapter also shows a recommended recovery sequence.

(2)  
You can change the center of gravity (CG) of the airplane. If you change the CG, a stable airplane can move dangerously. The CG will change if you move, add or remove airplane weights. These weights can be the cargo, the fuel or large parts of the airplane. You will find more details on the change in the airplane’s CG in this chapter.

(3)  
The removal of the payload from the airplane is necessary to decrease the airplane weight. After the passengers are off the airplane, you can remove the baggage and the cargo from the lower cargo compartments. In this document, we recommend the removal of the airplane payload as your first step. You do this before you make the airplane level and before you lift the airplane or move it.

(4)
During the initial phases of a recovery, the defueling is a most important item. The total fuel weight on the airplane can have a large effect when the airplane is in an unusual attitude. Also, when you move the airplane to a level attitude, the fuel makes a large difference in the CG.

Chapter 3-00, MAKE THE AIRPLANE STABLE TO LIFT THE AIRPLANE

(1)  
This chapter shows the tether procedures that make the airplane stable. This chapter also shows the procedures necessary to lift the airplane. The procedures include airplanes with landing gears that do not operate.

D.  
Chapter 4-00,WHEN YOU MOVE THE AIRPLANE

(1)  
This chapter shows the possible procedures for movement of the airplane. This includes the possible tether points and the permitted tow loads for different tow angles and tow vehicles. This chapter also shows supports for damaged landing gears.
