Number (ACN/PCN)
1. Scope:
This section describes the method of development of charts for use in determining
the Aircraft Classification Numbers (ACN numbers) for GIV series aircraft.
The source for data presented in this section is Gulfstream Engineering Report
Number GIV-GER-481, GIV Pavement Classification Number Development For
Aircraft Flight Manual, dated March 21, 1994.
The data presented in this section is in no way intended to replace or supersede
any data contained in the latest Gulfstream-approved revision of Gulfstream
Engineering Report Number GIV-GER-481. Rather, it is included for training and
reference use, complementing Gulfstream IV Operating Manual Chapter 13,
Approach and Landing Planning and Performance. Should there be any
disagreement between the data contained in this section and the latest
Gulfstream-approved revision of Gulfstream Engineering Report Number GIVGER-
481, the latest Gulfstream-approved revision of Gulfstream Engineering
Report Number GIV-GER-481 shall take precedence over this section.

3. Analysis Objectives:
The overall objective of the flotation analysis of the GIV Aircraft Classification
Numbers is to define the operating ACN classification numbers as a function of
gross weight for standard pavements.
A. Method of Analysis:
The final definition of the method was obtained from International Civil
Aviation Organization Report; Aerodrome Design Manual, Part 3,
Pavements, Document Number 9157-AN/901, Part 3. This document was
obtained from: Document Sales Unit; International Civil Aviation
Organization; 1000 Sherbrooke Street West, Suite 400; Montreal, Quebec;
Canada H3A 2R2.
4. Analysis Data Inputs:
The general procedure that was used by Gulfstream Aerospace in this analysis
was to determine the wheel loads that are experienced on the aircraft. These
wheel loads, their related tire pressure and aircraft landing gear geometry were
then used as inputs for the third party software program listed previously to
calculate the Aircraft Classification Numbers.

A. Analysis Procedure:
The software obtained from ICAO Document Sales Unit was used to
perform the detailed analysis for determining the Aircraft Classification
Numbers. This program calculates the ACN numbers for the given aircraft
input data based upon a standard allowable pavement stress. This is
accomplished by iterating the solutions for pavement thickness to establish
a standard stress of 2.75 MPa (400 psi). The program then computes the
ACN number for these conditions as the value of Aircraft Classification
Number that can be assigned to the aircraft.
B. Aircraft ACN Total Envelope:
To determine the total ACN number envelope for the aircraft, the iterative
solution for ACN number (as a function of subgrade for a given aircraft
gross weight) was repeated for 5000 lb gross weight increments, from
35,000 lb to 80,000 lb.
C. Numerical Results:
The numerical results are contained in the plots shown in Figure 12
through Figure 19.
5. Discussion:
The results given for the flotation analysis are plots for the aircraft giving the
calculated values for the Aircraft Classification Numbers for the GIV aircraft. The
intended use of these data is for assisting in flight planning as well as planning for
long term service operation of the GIV series aircraft.
A. Definitions:
Aircraft Classification Number (ACN) is a number expressing the
relative effect of an aircraft on a pavement for a specified subgrade
category. ACN values are calculated for both flexible and rigid pavement. If
the aircraft gross weight and runway subgrade strength are known, the
ACN value can be determined from the charts on the following pages.
Pavement Classification Number (PCN) is a number expressing the
bearing strength of a pavement for unrestricted operations. It is reported in
