Any monitored faults that affect airplane dispatchability will be displayed on EICAS as a Status or Alert level (Warning, Caution, Advisory) message, with a corresponding correlated maintenance message. System faults displayed at Status level or Alert level should be resolved by MEL compliance or maintenance action prior to engine start. After engine start, EICAS Alert messages are the primary means of alerting the crew to non-normal conditions or improper configuration. Display of any Alert message requires accomplishment of the appropriate non-normal procedure by the crew. Upon completion of the procedure and prior to takeoff, the operator’s MEL should be consulted to determine if relief is available for continued operation with system faults displayed at the Alert level (Warning, Caution, Advisory).
Dispatch capability with an invalid EICAS message depends on the message level. Dispatch with invalid status level messages is allowed by MEL item 31-61-4, provided that either the associated equipment is verified to operate normally or the dispatch deviations for the associated equipment are observed. However, there is no specific item in the MEL for dispatch with invalid Alert level (Warning, Caution, or Advisory) messages, since they are required for in-flight crew awareness or action as described at the beginning of Section 1. Thus, if an Alert message is displayed, dispatch is allowed only if there is MEL relief for the associated equipment fault or failure, and the applicable dispatch deviations are applied. If system deactivation procedures result in an associated Alert message remaining OFF, dispatch may be acceptable if no inflight alert is needed for the deactivated equipment. In most cases, appropriate placards or flight log entries provide sufficient crew awareness.

EICAS AUTO EVENT ERASE PROCEDURE FOR NUISANCE MESSAGES
EICAS AUTO EVENT ERASE Procedure may be utilized when it is suspected that the EICAS Message does not imply an actual malfunction or defect and may be considered as nuisance message. To determine the nature of the EICAS Message The Flight Crew has a limited authority to perform the erase procedure combined to C/B resets if needed. Before performing the Auto Event Erase Procedure the Flight Crew shall consult authorized Technical Personnel for it. It is important to monitor the possible reappearance of the erased EICAS Message after the Procedure.
Do the steps that follow to erase the possible nuisance messages:
1. Push the ECS MSG, ELEC HYD, PERF APU or EPCS Button on the EICAS Maintenance Panel for the Maintenance Page that has an unwanted AUTO EVENT
2. Make sure that the correct Page shows
3. Push the AUTO EVENT READ Switch
4. Make sure that AUTO EVENT shows at the bottom of the Lower Display
5. Before erasing the event copy the messages (and other information if needed) on the Maintenance Page to a piece of paper to save the Message History for maintenance purposes
