3. Placard Replacement
A. The approximate location of each placard is shown on the Placard Installation Figure 3 unless specified by other documents.
1) Proper bonding strength of pressure sensitive placards can only be achieved on clean surfaces.
2) All contaminants must be removed by cleaning area with proper cleaner. Care should be taken to insure compatibility of cleaner and material to be cleaned.
3) Metals such as stainless steel and aluminum should be degreased and abraded if necessary to provide a smooth clean surface.
4) Placards with adhesive should be applied at temperatures between 60oF and 110o F.
5) To install placards with pressure-sensitive adhesive, remove baking paper and apply firm even pressure.
6) Placards requiring rivets shall be installed using blind rivets.
4. Panel Repair
A. Corrosion of non-appearance surfaces such as hardware associated with panels may be arrested by cleaning and applying a protective coating.
1) Clean affected area with Rho-clean solvent by hand, wiping to remove any organic soil.
2) Remove corrosion products by brushing with a non-metallic bristle brush or by sanding. Rinse with clean water and dry thoroughly.
3) Apply protective coating to affected areas.
B. Repair procedure for damaged honeycomb panel when the damaged area is 6 inch or less, and the affected area is limited to the panel skin on one side only plus the underlying core material.
1) Remove damaged skin and core material by cutting a round or square hole six (6) inches or less. Do not cut into the panel skin on the opposite side. On square cuts maintain a minimum of . inch radius on corners.
2) Construct a plug using the same panel material and thickness by cutting the material 2 inches larger than the panel hole. Cut one side of the material skin and core to .12 inch smaller than the panel hole.
3) Cold bond the plug in place using approved adhesive/2 COMPONENT J.D. Lincoln P/N L-301 FR or equivalent. Sand smooth, then finish to match the rest of panel surfaces
C. Repair procedure for damaged honeycomb panel when the area is 6 inches in diameter or less, and both sides of the panel skin are affected.
1) Cut a round or square hole up to 6 Inches through the panel, removing the damaged panel material. On square cuts maintain a minimum of . inch radius on corners.
2) Construct a plug using the same panel material and thickness. Bond in place using approved adhesive/2 COMPONENT J.D. Lincoln P/N L-301 FR or equivalent.
3) Mark a 2.50 inch border around the hole on each side of the panel. Cut two sheets of the panel parent skin material to fit the borders, each having the same thickness as the panel skin.
4) Bond the sheets in place using approved adhesive/2 COMPONENT J.D. Lincoln P/N L-301 FR or equivalent. Feather the edges of the skin material and refinish.
