 (2)  Checking and Selecting Configurations (Fig. 21)
 (a)  
Configuration checks are made with the aid of planning page 1. This page lists model numbers for airframe and engines and describes units (pounds or metric) that must be used for weight data entries.

 (b)  
Depress CDU PLNG key. Title of displayed page is: PLNG INIT.....1/6.

 (c)  
To check PMS computer software part number, depress CDU line select switch 2. Title of displayed page is: PMS XXXXXXX XXX 1/6. (Where X represents the numerals of the PMS software part number).

 (d)  
Depress CDU PLNG key. To check and select flight plan configuration, depress CDU line select switch 3. Title of displayed page is: FLT PLN CONFIG.....1/6.


 NOTE: At PMS turn on, the PMS is limited to 250 knots (below
____ 10,000 feet), and the INS is in the PMS waypoint control mode.
 (e)  To change the INS from PMS waypoint control to INS waypoint control, depress PMS CDU line select switch 2. 1) Line select switch 2 and INSERT key illuminate. 2) "SEL?" message appears in CDU data line 2. 3) Depress PMS CDU INSERT key.

 4) CDU line select switch 2 and INSERT key light extinguish. 5) SEL message without question mark remains in CDU data line 2.
 (f)  To eliminate the PMS speed limit of 250 knots (below 10,000 feet), depress CDU line select switch 3. 1) Line select switch 3 and INSERT key illuminate. 2) YES message in data line 3 of CDU display is replaced by
 a "NO?" message. 3) Depress PMS CDU INSERT key. 4) CDU line select switch 3 and INSERT key extinguish. 5) Question mark following NO message in data line 3
 disappears.
 (3)  
Selecting Engine Limits Using Limit Select Panel

 (a)  
Engine limits are normally selected through the limit select panel (LSP). These limits, however, can also be selected through the CDU. Selecting the limits from either location affects the other; all limit indications reflect the last selection.

 (b)  
Limit selections begin with flight mode selections: (1) Dry Takeoff, (2) Wet Takeoff - only if applicable to engine type,


 (3) Climb, (4) Go-Around, (5) Cruise, and (6) Continuous. With the limit mode selected, it is then possible to select alternate ratings (FULL, RTG1, or RTG2) and a decrease (derating) factor.

 (4)  
Selecting Engine Limits Using Control Display Unit.

 (a)  
Engine limits are normally selected through the limit select panel (LSP). Data from the LSP is sent to the PMS computer unit, which then supplies it to both the CDU and the limit indicator. However, engine limits can also be loaded through the CDU.

 (b)  
Limits can be loaded for six different limit modes: (1) Dry Takeoff, (2) Wet takeoff - only if applicable to engine type,


 (3) Go-Around, (4) Climb, (5) Cruise, and (6) Continuous. ENG LIM page 1 (on the CDU display) is an index, used to select the desired mode, while pages 2 and 3 are used to insert or observe data that is used to compute the actual limits.

 (5)  
Loading Data

 (a)  
Variables required for performance computations must be loaded into the PMS computer before flight: these variables include fuel and gross weights. If not provided automatically from other airplane systems, Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and outside airtemperature (OAT) must also be loaded into the PMS computer.

 (b)  
Enter Airplane Gross Weight

 1)  Airplane gross weight should be entered through the PMS CDU before engine startup. The value displayed on the CDU is then updated automatically to account for fuel burnoff. It can also be checked and manually corrected.

 (c)  
Load Fuel Weight

 1)  Fuel weight should also be loaded through the PMS CDU before starting engines. Once the engines are running, the value displayed on the CDU is continuously updated by the PMS computer unit to correct for fuel consumption.
 (d)  
Load GMT

 1)  Greenwich mean time (GMT) is loaded through the PMS CDU only if the CDU display is incorrect, or the GMT input is not present and dashes are displayed.

 (e)  
Load Outside Air Temperature


 1)  Outside air temperature (OAT) must be made available in order for the PMS to determine engine limits for takeoff. OAT is provided automatically by an aspirated TAT probe. If the TAT probe is not aspirated, dashes appear in the spaces for OAT on planning page 2 (on the CDU display) and the OAT must be loaded through the PMS CDU. Normally, this would be the actual outside temperature.
