The parallel structural members are connected at intervals by vertical members which contain latch and support brackets for the overhead stowage compartments. A series of turnbuckles attach the parallel members to fuselage structure and allows the overhead support structure to be readily removable.
C. Overhead Support Structure (Carry-All Compartment Interior)
(1)
The overhead support structure consists of one channel installed along each side of the main cabin. This member is attached to the body frames by turnbuckles.
(2)
The overhead support channel supports the inboard edge of the carry-all compartments and the outboard edge of the curved ceiling panels.

PASSENGER CABIN LINING AND INSULATION - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

ATI INTERIOR
1. General
A. The passenger cabin lining and insulation consists of sidewall lining; ceiling and lowered ceiling lining; and insulation installed outboard or above the linings throughout the passenger cabin.
B. Information on lining and insulation of all doors is included in Chapter 52, Doors.
2. Sidewall Lining (Fig. 1)
A. Sidewall Panels
(1)
Sidewall panels extend from the carpet risers to the overhead stowage bins. The panels are crushed nomex honeycomb between two layers of fiberglass. The exposed surface has a decorative, scratch-resistant tedlar covering.
(2)
The inner windowpane mounts near the middle of each panel. Sidewall panels have one or two window cutouts. The inner pane is removable with the panel in place.
(3)
A wash light is near the top of each panel. The ballast may be removed with the panel in place.
(4)
The sidewall panels mount to the airplane structure by support brackets on the vertical edges. A trim strip fits between each panel to cover the fasteners. Spring clips secure the bottom to the carpet riser. The upper edge slides into the air outlet extrusion.
B. Carpet Risers and Air Grills
(1)
The carpet riser is a nomex honeycomb-core panel covered with carpet on the exposed side. Two screws secure the panel to the airplane structure.
(2)
Most carpet risers have air grills attached by two quick-release fasteners. Depress fasteners to release the air grill and depress fasteners again to attach air grill. Air grills permit air to circulate into the lower lobe.
3. Ceiling Lining (Fig. 2)
A. Sculptured Ceiling Panels
(1)
Sculptured ceiling panels line the ceiling over the passenger compartment aisle. The panels are nomex honeycomb with a tedlar covering on the exposed side.
(2)
Two hinges support the panel on the outboard edge. The inboard edge fits in a groove on the air outlet extrusion. A lanyard on the inboard edge prevents the panel from swinging fully open.

B. Lowered Ceiling Panels
(1)
The ceiling is lowered in entry, galley and lavatory areas to provide space for lights, service units and galley vents. Some panels are hinged for access to these furnishings.
(2)
Curved ceiling panels and transition panels in lowered ceiling areas allow contours to blend with sculptured ceiling panels in the passenger seating area, for a unified appearance.
4. Insulation (Fig. 1)
A. Fiberglass insulation blankets between the linings and fuselage skin, thermally and acoustically insulate the passenger compartment. The blankets have a waterproof covering to prevent condensation from leaking inside the compartment.
