C.  Remove any equipment that is installed by attachments that extend through the insulation blanket.
4.  Remove Insulation
A.  Remove washers from lining retainer studs securing insulation to body frames.
B.  Pull insulation loose from lining retainer studs.
C.  Remove any single surface tape used to seal edges of insulation blanket to adjacent blankets or structure.
D.  Remove insulation blanket by pulling inboard to separate halves of velcro tape used in some places to hold insulation against airplane structure.
E.  Mark insulation blanket so that it can be identified for reinstallation.
5.  Install Insulation Blanket
A. Clean structure with solvent, if necessary, where tape is to be applied to secure blanket.
CAUTION:  LET THE SOLVENTS FROM THE CORROSION-INHIBITING COMPOUND (CIC) FULLY EVAPORATE. IF CIC GETS ON THE INSULATION BLANKETS BEFORE THE SOLVENTS EVAPORATE, THE INSULATION BLANKET WILL BECOME LESS FLAME-RESISTANT. APPLY CIC (BMS 3-23, BMS 3-26, BMS 3-29, OR EQUIVALENT) ONLY TO METALLIC AIRPLANE COMPONENTS.
B.  If Corrosion-Inhibiting Compounds (CIC) contamination of insulation blankets occurs, perform the following steps:
(1)  
Replace the insulation blanket if CIC contamination occurs along the seam.

(2)  
For all areas except along seams, remove the CIC with Biogenic SE377C, Aliphatic Naphtha, Citra-Safe, or equivalent.


NOTE: If the CIC cannot be removed, replace the blanket.

(3)  In order to prevent Corrosion-Inhibiting Compounds (CIC) contamination of insulation blankets, perform the following steps prior to blanket installation.
NOTE:  Adjust the ventilation times of the following steps upward to achieve satisfactory drying. Drying depends on the temperature, humidity, and quantity of CIC.
(a)  
Ventilate areas, after application of CIC such as BMS 3-23, for a minimum of 1 hour.

(b)  
Ventilate area treated with CIC such as BMS 3-26 or BMS 3-29 for a minimum of 4 hours.


C.  Place insulation blanket in position and align cutouts and grommets in insulation with brackets and attachments which must protrude through insulation.
D.  In areas where velcro tape is used to secure insulation, align tape surfaces and press together.
E.  Lap edges or flaps of insulation blanket over or under adjacent blankets as required.
NOTE:  The flaps along edges of insulation blankets must overlap adjacent blankets in a manner which will transfer runoff of condensed moisture to the adjacent blanket without trapping moisture or allowing it to leak into cabin area.
F.  Place lining retainer studs through holes in the insulation blanket. When installing a new insulation blanket, pierce insulation with lining retainer stud and apply a 2-inch wide patch of single face tape to the inboard insulation covering an area around hole. Install washers on lining retainer studs to secure insulation.
G.  Check that insulation blankets fit tightly around any structure or supporting brackets which protrude through inboard surface of insulation. Use single face tape as required to secure and seal insulation blankets tightly around these items.
H.  Insulation blankets should clear stringers if possible to allow free drainage of condensed moisture. Insulation blankets should not be wrapped around stringers.
NOTE:  Ceiling and wall insulation blanket segments are designed to be attached to stringer No. 4 at their overlap point.
I.  Apply single face tape to close any holes or gaps through which fuselage skin, frames, or stringers are exposed.
J.  Check to ensure that all insulation components are in proper places so as not to interfere with sidewall lining or other equipment installed on sidewall.
6.  Restore Airplane to Normal
A.  Reinstall any brackets or equipment that were removed.
B.  Reinstall air distribution ducts removed from sidewall area (Ref Chapter 21, Air Distribution System).
C.  Reinstall any components of the sidewall and ceiling lining which were removed to gain access to the insulation (Ref 25-21-311 thru 25-21-361 for removal/installation of sidewall and ceiling lining components).

1.  General
A.  Removal and installation of all or any part of the ceiling insulation may be accomplished. However, due to the variety of installation methods and the lack of a typical example, the instructions which follow are of a general nature.
