 D. Procedure - General Maintenance Data
 S 792-017
 (1)  Do the leak detection procedure:
 (a)  Use an approved leak detection compound to find small leaks. 1) Apply the leak detection compound with a soft brush on the
 connections that you think are a source of leaks. 2) Examine all the connections for bubbles. 3) Use a mirror and a light when it is necessary to examine
 areas that are not easy to see. 4) Rub off the leak detection compound with a clean cloth immediately after the test.

 (2) Make sure the oxygen hose assemblies have the correct clearance:
 CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE CORRECT CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE
_______ OXYGEN HOSE AND THE ELECTRICAL WIRING. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE CORRECT CLEARANCE THE OXYGEN HOSE AND THE ELECTRICAL WIRING COULD RUB AND CAUSE DAMAGE.
 (a)  Keep a two inch clearance between the oxygen hose and the electrical wiring when you install the mask stowage boxes. 1) If the clearance is less than two inches, attach clamps to
 the hose and wiring if it is necessary so the parts do not rub.

 (3) Make sure the tube assemblies for the oxygen system are clean.
 (a)  Clean the tube assemblies for the oxygen system (Ref 35-00-00/701).
 NOTE: The high pressure area of the oxygen system
____ uses cold drawn, 1/8 hard, corrosion resistant steel tubing (CRES) (MIL-T-6845). The low pressure area uses MIL-T-6845 CRES tubing on the upstream portion, found mainly in the cargo compartment. The downstream portion uses 6061-T6 seamless aluminum alloy tubing (MIL-T-7081).

 (4)  To seal the pipe threads, do these steps:
 (a)  If it is necessary, seal the pipe threads with teflon tape. 1) Apply the teflon tape to the external threads.
 NOTE: Keep 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 threads without the tape at the
____ end of the fitting.

 2)  Apply 1-1/2 turns of the teflon tape.
 NOTE: Pull the teflon tape tight against the threads.

 3)  Make sure the tape is not installed beyond the end of the internal fitting.

 (5) To tighten the oxygen system tubing and fittings, do this step:
 CAUTION: DO NOT TIGHTEN THE TUBING AND FITTINGS WITH THE OXYGEN
_______ SYSTEM PRESSURIZED. DAMAGE TO THE TUBINGS AND FITTINGS COULD OCCUR IF THE OXYGEN SYSTEM IS PRESSURIZED.
 (a)  Tighten all the tubing B-nuts, hose fittings, bolts, screws, and nuts used in the oxygen system to the standard torques (Ref 20-50-11/201).
 NOTE: When a different torque value is necessary for a
____ specific installation, the torque value will listed in the applicable maintenance procedure.
 E.  Procedure - Oxygen System Maintenance Practices
 S 842-022
 (1)  Prepare for the maintenance.
 (a)  
Read the safety precautions before you do the maintenance.

 (b)  
Clean all tools, equipment, and fittings before you do maintenance.

 (c)  
Use clean gloves and clean clothing during maintenance.

 WARNING: LOOSEN THE CONNECTIONS ON THE OXYGEN CYLINDERS CAREFULLY.
_______ THE REMAINING OXYGEN CAN RELEASE WITH A LARGE FORCE AND CAUSE THE TEMPERATURE TO INCREASE. THIS COULD CAUSE A FIRE OR EXPLOSION.
 (d)  When you do maintenance in a pressurized area of the oxygen system, bleed the pressure in the oxygen lines off through the normal outlet when it is possible.

 (e)  
When it is not possible to bleed the pressure off through the usual outlet, lightly loosen the oxygen line connections to bleed off the pressure.

 (f)  
When the pressure is bled off, continue to loosen the
