Standard Aero Nod for CF34-8s
Winnipeg-based Standard Aero (Booth 1342) says it’s won Transport Canada and thus
U.S. FAA approval to repair and overhaul all models of CF34-8 engines, which power
Bombardier CRJ700 and 900, and Embraer 170 regional jets (shown). There are
approximately 600 of the engines in service worldwide with
orders and options for 1,000 more in the coming decade.
“We are very fortunate to be among the first repair and overhaul
organizations to have full CF34-8 capability,” said
Rob Stone, vp for Standard Aero’s CF34 strategic business unit.
ST Aerospace for Okay and Airbus
Singapore Technologies Aerospace (Booth 1108) says its ST Aerospace Supplies unit has
been tapped by China’s new Okay Airways, the nation’s first private carrier, to support a
complete range of components on Okay’s six Boeing 737s. The five-year, maintenanceby-
the-hour pact is expected to be worth approximately $12 million. And last month
ST Aerospace signed a global MRO network deal with Airbus, allowing support to be
extended in the Asia-Pacific region, from Bournemouth in the UK, and from ST Mobile
Aerospace Engineering in Alabama and San Antonio Aerospace in Texas.
Liebherr in A380 Services Venture
Liebherr Aerospace (Booth 1803) comes to MRO 2005 flush on the heels of a deal with
Diehl Avionik, Thales and Zodiac to create OEMServices, based in Toulouse, to provide
a global support network for Airbus A380 operators. OEMServices will manage stocks
and logistics to ensure availability of spare parts in strategic areas, and will operate customer
service agencies. It will also offer “pay-by-the-hour spare parts logistics and repair
services to airlines operating all types of single-aisle or long-haul Airbus machines.”
AgustaWestland for Sea Kings
AgustaWestland has won a contract worth $560 million over five years for future support
of the UK MoD fleet of Sea King helicopters. Subsidiary Westland Helicopters is
the managing prime, teamed with BAE Systems Avionics and Thales UK to provide Sea
King Integrated Operational Support. SKIOS affords
“guaranteed levels of availability of support, a more
integrated support service based upon guaranteed
availability of equipment and technical services,” says
AgustaWestland. The Sea King has been in service
30 years and will remain so until 2018.
Airbus Launches Its MRO Network

Airbus has launched its long-awaited MRO
Network, which now has 12 members.

services. Forging a new association between
providers “is an essential step,” said Airbus

“as the MRO Network
will close the loop and
complement our well
established relationships
with our customers and
our suppliers.”
“The MRO policy
addresses the global growth of the Airbus
fleet, maturity, outsourcing of maintenance
by legacy carriers, and the growth of
low-cost operators needing specialized MRO
services,” Airbus North America maintenance
and engineering services vp
John Dickie told Show News Briefing.

MRO service scope, availability, quality and
value to Airbus customers, providing a competitive
advantage,” Dickie said.
“In addition to the Network, Airbus is
offering new direct MRO support services to
enable the MROs to deliver this competitive
advantage.”

Liebherr Is Expanding in Michigan
Liebherr Aerospace (Booth 1803), which has increased its staff
in Saline, Michigan, from 50 to 95 over the past two years,
expects to add ten more workers through next year. The firm
broke ground for a 33,000-square-foot expansion there,
which as of August will give the aerospace unit 66,000 square
