WEATHER RADAR RECEIVER/TRANSMITTER - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General
_______
A. On Passenger Airplanes, The two weather radar R/T units are located in the forward equipment center. Access is gained through the access opening on the right crawlway forward of the main electronics equipment center. The two units are identical in removal and installation.
B. On Freighter Airplanes, The two weather radar R/T units are located below three floor compartment panels on the centerline in the nose cargo door section. Access is gained by removing the floor compartment panels above the R/T units.
2. Equipment and Materials

A. Weather Radar Receiver-Transmitter Dolly - ME65B40706
3. Remove Receiver/Transmitter
___________________________
A. Open WEA RDR RT/1 and WEA RDR RT/2 circuit breakers on overhead circuit breaker panel P7 and tag circuit breakers with Do-Not-Operate identifiers.
B. On Freighter Airplanes, Remove the floor compartment panels in the nose cargo area to gain access to the receiver/transmitters.
C. On airplanes with RCA AVQ-30X weather radar perform the following:
(1)
Loosen and disengage R/T holddown clamps.
(2)
On airplanes with extractors, rotate extractor thumbscrews CCW until connectors, waveguide flange, and index pins on rear of R/T are clear of mounting tray.
(3)
On airplanes without extractors, carefully pull R/T unit aft until connectors, waveguide flange, and index pins on rear or R/T are clear of mounting tray.
D. On airplanes with bendix RDR-1F weather radar perform the following:
(1)
Loosen and disengage R/T holddown clamps.
(2)
Rotate extractor thumbscrew CCW until connectors, waveguide flange, and index pins on rear of R/T are clear of mounting tray.
E. On airplanes with Collins WXR-700X weather radar,
loosen and disengage R/T holddown knobs.
F. On airplanes with Bendix RDR-4A weather radar,
loosen and disengage R/T holddown knobs.
G. Remove R/T using weather radar receiver-transmitter dolly ME65B40706 (if provided).
(1) Use the R/T dolly to remove the R/T under these conditions.
(a)
On passenger or combi airplanes.
(b)
On airplanes where the dolly can be positioned below the R/T mount on the walkway.
(c)
Use the R/T dolly especially for airplanes with RDR-1F or AVQ-30 weather radar systems.
H. Place protective cover over waveguide flange on R/T, R/T mount and electrical connectors.
4. Install Receiver/Transmitter

A. Remove protective cover from waveguide flanges and electrical connectors on R/T and R/T mount.

B. Replace removed receiver/transmitter with units modified per SB 34A2286 as follows:
(1) On SN airplanes, replace Bendix 2041217-0407, -0413 or -0419 with the -0415.
NOTE: The -0419 does not contain any of the Bendix product
____ improvements, it only contains the EMI Bendix service bulletin. To obtain the product improvements for the -0419, do the Bendix service bulletin RTA-4A-34-78. Upon completion of this service bulletin, the -0419 will become the -0415.
(2) AF AIRPLANES;
replace Bendix 2041217-0407 with the -0415.
NOTE: The -0419 does not contain any of the Bendix product
____ improvements, it only contains the EMI Bendix service bulletin. To obtain the product improvements for the -0419, do the Bendix service bulletin RTA-4A-34-78. Upon completion of this service bulletin, the -0419 will become the -0415.
C. Open WEA RDR RT/1 and WEA RDR RT/2 circuit breakers on overhead circuit breaker panel P7 and tag circuit breakers with Do-Not-Operate identifiers.
D. Place R/T on mounting tray with bottom edge of front panel in slot provided on extractor mechanism. Use of weather radar receiver-transmitter dolly, ME65B40706, is optional.
