CES  ANALYZERS ((131-9(A))) - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

 1. General
_______ The Electronic Control Box (ECB) examines the APU faults and the APU life (performance) data. Software algorithms within the ECB monitor the faults and the life data for indication and memorization. The analysis of the APU data is divided into two main parts:
 -
APU life data,

 -
APU fault data.
 The APU life data is used to monitor the health and usage statistic of the
 APU. The APU fault data is used to support trouble shooting on the APU.
 The results of the APU data analysis are available on the Multipurpose
 Control and Display Unit (MCDU) via the Centralized Fault Data System
 (CFDS).

 3. System Description

 A. APU Life Data The APU life data is associated physically with the related APU by the Data Memory Module (DMM). The DMM is a nonvolatile memory device and is installed on the APU. It keeps the data about the APU health monitoring and the APU life usage. The DMM uses an Electrical Erasable Read-only-Memory (EEPROM) to store the information. During the APU start procedure, the ECB reads the actual DMM data and stores it in its memory. The data will be updated in the ECB during the APU operation. During the APU shutdown (engine rolldown) the ECB transmits the updated data to the DMM and the old database is enlarged with the new data. The database of the DMM stores 126 different parameters, such as:

APU serial and model number,

APU operating hours and starts,

 -
APU accumulated HOT time,

 -
APU accumulated shutdowns.

 etc. The DMM provides this data via the ARINC 429 data bus to the CFDS. Access to this data is through the 'SERVICE DATA' page of the APU menu.

 B. APU Fault Data
 The Built-In Test Equipment (BITE) software of the ECB gives:

 -Fault detection,

 -Equipment protection,

 -Failure information.
 The BITE uses input from the same hardware devices and sensors already
 used for APU control and operation. This ensures a safe and reliable
 operation of the APU. When the BITE detects a failed device or an
 operational fault, the ECB stores the failure in the BITE fault memory.
 The BITE of the ECB operates in three modes:

 -Power Up Test (PUT),

 -In Operation Test (IOT),

 -Self Test (SET).

 -Ground Scanning
 PUT
 The PUT is an automatic system self-test which is initiated when the ECB
 has finished its initialization and the APU speed (N) is less than 7
 %rpm.
 IOT
 The IOT tests automatically those LRUs which have to be tested during APU
 operation.
 SET
 The SET is similar to the PUT, but has to be called up via a CFDS menu
 page.

 Dependant on the faults the ECB either prevents an APU start or shuts down the APU or operates the APU with certain default operating values. The CFDS gives access to the fault data via the MCDU.

 A. Aircraft Digital Interface The ECB communicates to other aircraft systems via three seperate LOW SPEED ARINC 429 buses.
