 1)  Install the bolt, two washers, nut, and cotter pin at the higher end of the side link. a) Tighten the nut to 150-350 pound-inches (17.1-39.9
 N.m). b) Make sure the nut is seated on the washer. c) Install the cotter pin. d) If it is necessary, you can loosen the nut a minimum
 quantity to install the cotter pin.
 e)  Apply sealant approximately 0.10 inch (2.54 mm) thick, to the two ends of the cotter pin, to prevent movement of the cotter pin.
 2)  Install the bolt, washer, and locknut at the lower end of the side link. a) Do a check of the self-locking torque of the locknut. b) If the self-locking torque is not 18-150 pound-inches
 (2.1-17.1 N.m), replace the locknut and do the check again.
 NOTE: The torque wrench must be installed on the
____ locknut and not the head of the bolt.
 c)  Tighten the locknut to 630-1070 pound-inches
 (71.8-122.0 N.m).

 3)  Make sure the clearance, between the midspar fittings and the wing attach fittings (4 locations), is as shown (Figure 402, Detail C) after the side links are installed.

 (2)  Install the aft fuse pin in the upper link (Figure 402, Detail D).
 (a)  
Make sure corrosion-preventive compound is applied to all of the inner surface of the fuse pin.

 (b)  
Apply a thin layer of grease to the OD of the fuse pin.

 (c)  
Push out the brass slug with the fuse pin.
 1) Make sure the clevis and the lug stay aligned.

 (d)  
Install the two caps, bolt, nut, and two washers: 1) Apply a thin layer of grease on the contact surfaces of the caps, washers, and bolt. 2) Slide one washer and one end cap on to the bolt and slide

 this assembly through the fuse pin. 3) Install the remaining end cap, washer and the nut. 4) Tighten the nut to 150-350 pound inches (17.1-39.9 N.m). 5) Install the cotter pin.
 a)  If it is necessary, you can loosen the nut a minimum quantity to install the cotter pin.
 6)  Apply sealant approximately 0.10 inch (2.54 mm) thick, to the two ends of the cotter pin, to prevent movement of the cotter pin.

 (3)  Install the forward pin in the upper link (Figure 402, Detail E).
 (a)  
Make sure corrosion-preventive compound is applied to all of the inner surface of the pin.

 caps, washers and bolt before you assemble them. 2) Install the two caps, two washers, and nut. 3) Tighten the nut to 150-350 pound-inches (17.1-39.9 N.m). 4) Install the cotter pin.
 a)  If it is necessary, you can loosen the nut a minimum quantity to install the cotter pin.
 5)  Apply sealant approximately 0.10 inch (2.54 mm) thick, to the two ends of the cotter pin, to prevent movement of the cotter pin.

 (4)  Install the aft fuse pin in the diagonal brace (Figure 402, Detail G).
 (a)  Look for a tag or markings on the brace that identify the airplane, the strut position, and the center-to-center distance.
 NOTE: If the brace is tagged or marked with this data, it
____ is an optional (custom fitted) diagonal brace.
 (b)  
If the diagonal brace is an optional (custom fitted) brace, do one of these two steps: 1) Install the same diagonal brace that you removed from the

 airplane and strut. 2) Alternatively, install a new diagonal brace with the same center-to-center distance.
