 (6)  S 424-014Install the steering actuator. (a) Clean the support plate and apply a light coat of grease to all the mating or bearing surfaces. (b) Position the upper and lower support plate on the steering actuator trunnion. (c) Pack the cavities between the trunnion and the plates with corrosion preventive compound.
 CAUTION:_______ YOU MUST NOT HIT, SHAKE, OR ALLOW THE TRUNNION BEARING TO GO OUT OF THE ALIGNED POSITION DURING INSTALLATION. THE TRUNNION BEARING IS A PRECISION BEARING AND YOU CAN EASILY CAUSE DAMAGE TO IT.
 (d) (e)  Fill the cavity of the trunnion bearings with grease.Assemble the actuators and the support plates for installation on the shock strut outer cylinders as shown on Fig. 402. 1) Install the trunnion locknuts, but do not tighten them.
 NOTE:____ Both the upper and lower trunnion locknuts have a nylon locking ring which must be installed with the bevel end of the nut next to the trunnion bearing. There will be some initial thread friction torque when starting this portion of nut over the trunnion thread.

 (f)  Apply liberal amounts of corrosion preventive compound to all the inside support clevis surfaces. Remove the excess compound (Fig. 403).
 NOTE: The support plate and the outer cylinder surfaces must
____ be coated with sufficient amounts of compound so that no air pockets exist between the support clevis and the cylinder lugs.
 (g) Use the steering cylinder sling to hoist the assembled units into the mounted position on the nose gear (Fig. 404).
 NOTE: Hold up the assembled units with the sling until you

 complete the installation.

 (h)  
Lubricate the washer faces, the bolt shanks and the threads of the support plate attach bolts with corrosion preventive compound before installing the bolts (Fig. 403).

 (i)  
Install the support plates attach bolts (Fig. 403).

 (j)  
Tighten the support plates attach bolt nut 15 to 25 pound-feet above the driving torque.

Install the steering summing mechanism.

Position the steering summing mechanism in place on the steering actuator upper and lower support plates.

Install the bolt with the washers and the nut to secure the steering summing mechanism to the steering actuator upper and lower support plates.

 (c)  Install the pulleys.
 1)  Position the pulley forward of the cable (NWS2A on left and NWS2B on right) and move the pulley aft into the pulley bracket trapping the cable in pulley groove.
 2)  Insert the pulley bolt and install the nut and the cotter pin on the pulley bolt securing the pulley in the pulley bracket. Make sure the cable is seated in the pulley groove.
 3)  Repeat steps 1) and 2) for the pulley on the opposite side of the summing mechanism.
