Put the drive shaft snapring (21) on the drive shaft (20).
(b)
Install the drive shaft (20) in the drive shaft housing (5).
(c)
Install new packings (23) and (26), lubricated with engine oil, into the front and rear grooves in the drive shaft housing (5).
(d)
Install the drive shaft housing (5) into the rear drive shaft housing on the main gearbox.
(e)
Move the drive shaft housing (5) aft.
(f)
Engage the splines on the aft end of the drive shaft (20) with the spur gear shaft inside the rear drive shaft housing.

Install the angle gearbox (11) as follows (Fig. 403):
(a)
Remove the covers from the angle gearbox (11) openings.
(b)
Install the cover (35) in the the side of the angle gearbox (11) as follows: 1) Install the new packing (34), lubricated with engine oil,
into the groove on the cover (35).
2) Attach the cover (35) with the bolts (36), lubricated with antigalling compound, and the washers (24). a) Tighten the bolts (36) to 62-72 pound inches
(7.005-8.135 newton-meters).
(c) Install a support bracket (27) on the hollow pin at each side of the angle gearbox (11) as follows: 1) Apply engine oil to the threads of four bolts (28) with
engine oil.
2) Attach a pin stop (28C) to each support bracket (27) with the bolts (28D). a) Tighten the bolts (28D) with your fingers.
3) Install the support brackets (27) on the pins at the sides of the angle gearbox (11).
4) Twist the free end of the pin stop (28C) counterclockwise until it touches the inner diameter of the pin. a) While you hold the pin stop (28C), tighten each bolt
(28D) to a torque of 32-36 pound inches (3.616-4.067 newton-meters). b) Bend the keys on the pin stops (28C).
(d) Install the angle gearbox (11) in the intermediate case as follows: 1) Install the new packing (18), lubricated with engine oil,
into the groove in the top outer diameter of the angle gearbox (11).
2) Raise the angle gearbox (11) to the correct position as you align the support bracket (27) with the bolt holes in the intermediate case.

Attach the angle gearbox (11) to the intermediate case with the four bolts (28). a) Tighten the bolts (28) to 225-300 pound inches
(25.422-33.895 newton-meters). b) Install lockwire or safety cable and safety ferrule.
4) ENGINES POST-PW-SB 72-438; Put the two keywashers (28B) in the correct position against the support brackets (27). a) Attach the angle gearbox (11) with the bolts (28A)
through the keywashers (28B) and support brackets (27). b) Tighten the bolts (28A) to 225-300 pound inches (25.422-33.895 newton-meters). c) Bend the tabs of the keywshers against the bolts with the PWA 87553 Crimper, then the PWA 87552 Crimper.
(e) Install the tower shaft (29) as follows:
1) Put the tower shaft (29) splines, lubricated with engine
oil, up into the angle gearbox (11). 2) Make sure the tower shaft (29) splines engage correctly. 3) Install the tower shaft snapring (33) to keep the tower
shaft (29) in the correct position.
(f)
Do a check of the installation of the tower shaft
snapring (29).
1) Put the PWA 87514 gage in the bore of the bevel gear.
2) If the tower shaft snapring (33) is installed correctly,
the detail stop bar will touch the bottom of the bevel gear.
(g)
Install the plug (31) as follows: 1) Install the new packing (32), lubricated with engine oil, into the groove in plug (31). 2) Install the plug (31) into the bottom of the
angle gearbox (11). 3) Attach the plug (31) with the retaining ring (30).

Install the intermediate case parts as follows (Fig. 402):
(a)
Mechanically remove all sealant that is at the ends of the fan exit case flange (37C) and at the trailing edges of the platforms of struts five and six.
