c. Note that FIR NOTAM, PRD NOTAM and ARFOR relating to the route are not

d. Area FIR NOTAM. Sub-FIR codes are coincident with the ARFOR boundaries and
are made up of the prefix "7" followed by a 2 digit ARFOR code and a trailing "0".
For example, to obtain FIR NOTAM for Area 40 ARFOR area, enter 7400.

3.5 AVFAX (Meteorological and NOTAM Facsimile Service)
3.5.1 AVFAX is a self help system which delivers meteorological and NOTAM information,
including charts, from NAIPS, to a nominated facsimile number, in response to a tone
generated telephone request. Each AVFAX briefing contains a reference number which
can be quoted to the briefing office or in-flight to obtain an update on the original briefing.

ERSA.

3.6 DECTALK (Automated Meteorological Telephone Briefing)

4. FLIGHT INFORMATION CENTRE
4.1 Briefing staff provide a flight notification acceptance service and a NOTAM, meteorological
and other briefing information by telephone and facsimile in response to requests for
specific information. (Military users see ERSA page INTRO 1.)

4.2 Technical Elaboration on Meteorological Products
4.2.1 The pilot in command is responsible for requesting and interpreting preflight information.
Requests to the briefing office for a technical elaboration of requirements shall be referred,
as appropriate, to ATS or meteorological specialists.
4.2.2 Requests for elaborative briefing, technical interpretations, non-routine forecasts, etc.,

4.3 International Operations
4.3.1 A preflight briefing service is provided by the briefing office for international operations.
For departing flights an information service is provided to the first destination outside
Australia. For pilots flight planning to Australia from locations such as Norfolk Island, an

information service is available on the international telephone and facsimile numbers
listed.
4.3.2 International operators intending to establish a new route out of Australia are required to
notify the briefing office of their NOTAM requirements prior to the commencement of the
service. This allows the briefing office to amend the database accordingly.
4.3.3 Requests by non scheduled operations for information not held in the database, will be
referred to the appropriate international authorities.
Early notice of such flights will avoid delays.
5. FLIGHTWATCH (Flight Information Service On Request )
5.1 FLIGHTWATCH provides an in-flight NOTAM and meteorological briefing service via
air-ground communications channels to pilots unable to obtain information preflight, or
who require an in-flight briefing update.This service will normally be limited to information
considered essential to the first point of intended landing where access to a telephone
