C. Get Access
(1)
Make sure that the access platform is in position below the APU compartment.
(2)
Make sure that the APU access doors 315AL and 316AR are open (Ref. TASK 52-41-00-010-001).
(3)
Make sure that the light SW 11LJ is set to the ON position.
4. Procedure

A. Install the Starter Motor Clutch Assembly (8033KM) - On Series 1 APU's (Original Configuration). (Ref. Fig. 401/TASK 49-42-52-991-001)
NOTE : Make sure that you install the correct starter clutch assembly P/N

(Ref. IPC 49-42-04, Fig. 1).
(1)
If new shims are necessary, then calculate the thickness that is necessary for installation.
(2)
Use a micrometer 0-10 cm and measure dimension D. in the gearbox housing (10).
(3)
Install the clutch assembly (8033KM) (5) into the cover assembly (3) with the splined end of the shaft to the cover assembly (3).
(4)
Use a depth micrometer to measure dimensions E and F on the clutch and cover assembly.
(5)
Use the formula (dimension D, minus dimension E, plus dimension F, minus 3.53 mm (0.1389 in.)) to calculate the necessary thickness of the shims (7), (8) and (9).
(6)
Install the necessary thickness of shims (7), (8) and (9) and then the wave-spring washer (6) into the gearbox housing (10).
(7)
Install the clutch assembly (8033KM) (5) in the gearbox housing (10) with the splines facing away from the gearbox housing.
(8)
Apply a thin layer of lubricant OILS (Material No. 03-002) to the new packing (4).
(9)
Install the new packing (4) to the cover assembly (3).
(10)
Install the cover assembly (3) on the G/Box housing 10) with the washers (2) and the bolts (1).
(11)
TORQUE the bolts (1) to 0.6 m.daN (53.09 lbf.in). Subtask 49-42-52-420-053
B.
Install the Starter Motor Clutch Assembly (8033KM) - On Series 27, 46 and 57 APU's with change numbers 30 and/or 68 and/or 87 stamped on the modification plate. (Ref. Fig. 402/TASK 49-42-52-991-003)
NOTE : Make sure that you install the correct starter clutch assembly P/N

(1)
Apply a thin layer of lubricant OILS (Material No. 03-002) to the new packing (4).
(2)
Install the new packing (4) in the cover assembly (3).
(3)
Install the wave-spring washer (6) in the gearbox housing.
(4)
Install the clutch assembly (8033KM) (5) in the gearbox housing, with the internally splined drive facing away from the gearbox.
(5)
Install the cover assembly (3) on the gearbox housing with the bolts
(1) and washers (2).
(6)
TORQUE the bolts (1) to 0.6 m.daN (53.09 lbf.in).
