C. Self test for the Loral/Fairchild Voice Recorder

When the TEST pushbutton on the voice recorder control panel is pushed, it causes the voice recorder test module to apply a 600-Hz signal to each channel in sequence, thereby testing all channels. If they are functioning properly, the control panel meter needle deflects into the green area and a modulated sound is present at both the control panel and the recorder jacks.

For Fairchild Voice Recorder Model A100
(a)
The ALL TEST switch on the front panel of the cockpit voice recorder operates the same test as the TEST pushbutton on the voice recorder control panel.

On the front panel of the cockpit voice recorder are test switches for testing recording channels 1 through 4 individually. 1) To initiate a test for an individual channel, push the test
switch on the face of the cockpit voice recorder for the particular channel number.
2) This individual channel test causes the test module to apply a 600 Hz signal to the channel being tested. If the channel is functioning properly, the test meters read in the green area and a modulated sound is present at both monitor jacks.
D. AIRPLANES WITH LORAL/FAIRCHILD TAPE BASED VOICE RECORDER; The bulk erase module contains timing, relays, and erase circuits which apply 115 volts, 400 Hz AC to the erase coil in the tape transport. The bulk erase circuits erase all audio on the recorder tape within ten seconds after the ERASE switch on the control panel is released. The bulk erase circuits will function only when the airplane is on the ground and the parking brake is set because the control circuit must be completed through relay K4 in the landing gear accessory unit module M338.

E. AIRPLANES WITH LORAL/FAIRCHILD SOLID STATE VOICE RECORDER; Bulk erasure requires that the ERASE switch be pushed a minimum of 2 seconds. When the ERASE switch is released the header data is removed so the data can not be read from memory and a modulated sound can be heard through the HEADSET jack for 13 seconds. The bulk erase circuits will function only when the airplane is on the ground and the parking brake is set because the control circuit must be completed through relay K4 in the landing gear accessory unit module M338.

VOICE RECORDER SYSTEM - TROUBLE SHOOTING

1. General_______
A. The following trouble shooting procedures are based on performance of the system operational test and are presented in a tree-type format to aid in rapid fault isolation.
B. When a test step does not check out, find the box containing the trouble symptom and perform the stated action. Continue to follow a single line by analyzing the results of each test step until the required corrective action is determined. Perform the specified corrective action, then repeat the step at which the failure was encountered and complete the test to check out the system.
C. All trouble shooting procedures are based on the assumption that wiring is OK and that electrical power is available. If the corrective action in the procedure does not correct the problem, do a check of the wiring using the wiring diagram.
2. Prepare for Trouble Shooting____________________________
A. Supply electrical power to the airplane (AMM 24-22-00/201).
B. Make sure that the voice recorder and flight interphone circuit breakers on P6 and P18 are closed.
