APPROACH IDLE SWITCH - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

 1.  General
_______
 A.  The approach idle switch, S819, is operated by the movement of the flap lever aft of the 10-unit flap position. The switch is installed in the right side of the control stand.
 B.  The approach idle switch is no longer connected to the engine idle control system and is kept as a reserve switch.
 C.  The approach idle switch is installed forward of the two flap load relief switches, S564 and S566.
 D.  This procedure has two tasks. The first task removes the approach idle switch, and the second task installs the approach idle switch.

 2.  AIRPLANES WITH NON-REINFORCED CONTROL STANDS; Remove the Approach Idle Switch

 (1)  The approach idle switch is mounted on a bracket under the cover to the left of the flap lever.

 (1)  Remove electrical power (AMM 24-22-00/201).
 (a)  Set the BAT switch on the Electrical Meters Battery and Galley Power Module (P5-13) to the OFF position and install a DO-NOT-OPERATE tag.

Put the thrust levers in the IDLE position and attach DO-NOT-OPERATE tags.

 (3)  
Put the start levers in the CUTOFF position and attach DO-NOT-OPERATE tags.

 (4)  
Remove the right stabilizer trim control wheel.

 (a)  
Remove the right tierod nut.

 (b)  
Remove the right control wheel from the splined shaft.

 NOTE: Do not remove the splined shaft.

 (5)  Remove the right side door on the control stand.
 (a)  
Remove the mounting screws from the right side door.

 (b)  
Remove the right side door.

 (6)  Remove the approach idle switch.
 NOTE: The approach idle switch is identified by a placard S819.

 The switch is the forward switch.

 (a)  
Remove two screws.

 (b)  
Remove the switch and switch actuator from the bracket.

 (c)  
Remove the wires from the switch.

 (1)  Install the approach idle switch.
 (a)  
Install the wires to the switch.

 (b)  
Put the switch in the switch actuator and align the mounting holes.

 (c)  
Align the mounting holes of the switch and switch actuator with the bracket.

 (d)  
Install two screws through the switch and switch actuator and tighten.

 (2)  Adjust the switch.
 (a)  
Move the flap lever to the 10-unit detent.

 (b)  
Use a multimeter to do a check of the continuity at the switch wire connection. 1) There must be no continuity at the 10-unit detent.
