3. Speed Brake Control Lever Installation (Fig. 401)

Procedure

 S 424-007
 (1)  
Install the speed brake lever:

 (a)  
Put the outboard bearing and spacer on the shaft.

 (b)  
Put the control lever in its position in the control stand.

 (c)  
Attach the shaft to the control stand with the three screws and washers.

 (d)  
Install the retainer through the control stand and on the shaft.

 (e)  
Install the bolt and washer on the retainer.

 (f)  
Install the cotter pin through the retainer.

 (g)  
Attach the control rod to the speed brake lever with a bolt, washer, and nut. 1) Make sure you install the bolt head outboard.

 (2)  
Install the left side panel on the control stand.

 (3)  
Install the coverplate with the five screws.

 (4)  
Install the lightplate with the two screws.

 SPEED BRAKE MECHANISM - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES

 1.  General_______
 A.  There are four tasks in this procedure. There is a task for the removal and a task for the installation of the speed brake mechanism. There is a functional test of the speed brake mechanism. There is also a task to clean and lubricate the speed brake mechanism.
 (1)  
The removal procedure has these parts:

 (a)  
The removal of the ceiling panel

 (b)  
The removal of the speed brake cables from the mechanism

 (c)  
The removal of the mechanism.

 (2)  
The installation procedure has these parts:

 (a)  
The installation of the mechanism

 (b)  
The installation of the speed brake cables

 (c)  
An adjustment of the mechanism

 (d)  
A functional test of the mechanism

 (e)  
The installation of the ceiling panel.

 (3)
The functional test of the speed brake mechanism has these parts:

 (a)  
The installation of the landing gear door locks

 (b)  
A test of the friction in the mechanism

 (c)  
The application of hydraulic power

 (d)  
A check that the speed brake system operates correctly with the speed brake lever and the pilot's aileron control wheel

 (e)  
A test of the speed brake arming switch

 (f)  
The removal of the hydraulic power

 (g)  
The removal of the landing gear door locks

 (4)  
The procedure to clean and lubricate the speed brake mechanism has these parts:

 (a)  
The removal of the ceiling panel

 (b)  
The application of the solvent to the mechanism

 (c)  
The application of grease to the mechanism.

 (d)  
A test of the friction in the speed brake system

 (e)  
The installation of the ceiling panel.
