Push on the brake pedals to operate the brakes.

Look for movement of the brake pistons of each brake to make sure the brake operates.

Examine the wheel brake unit for leaks at these locations:

The brake hydraulic disconnect assembly

 (b)  
The brake pressure port

 (c)  
The brake bleeder valve

The brake carrier drilled passage plugs

 (e)  
The brake pistons.

 (f)  
If you find leaks, repair or replace the brake assembly.

Examine the Brake After You Remove the Wheel

 S 016-013
 (1)  Remove the tire/wheel assembly from the main gear
 (AMM 32-45-01/401).

 (2)  S 866-014Release the parking brake.
 (3)  S 106-031Use a rag to remove all the unwanted grease from the axle.
 (4)  S 106-032Use a rag to remove the unwanted grease from the inner surface of the heat shield on the brake unit.
 (5)  S 216-059Examine torque tube heat shield which is bent. (a) If the torque tube heat shield is bent, repair or replace it.
 NOTE:____ The bent heat shield can cut groove to the outer surface of the wheel hub which is next to the brake assembly.
 (6)  S 216-027Examine all of the brake assembly for these conditions: (a) Cracks (b) Broken parts (c) Distortion (d) Parts that are worn more than their limits (e) Index marks on the brake stators (12 o'clock position) that do not align.
 NOTE:____ Inspect brake stators to make sure the stators have not spun or that the drive keys have been worn excessively.
 (f)  Other damage that can cause a malfunction or a leak.
 (7)  S 966-024If you find one of the above conditions, replace the brake.
 (8)  S 716-016Push the brake pedals fully forward 5 times to operate the brakes.
 (9)  S 216-029Do these checks to make sure the brake operates correctly: (a) Make sure each piston moves freely during the operation cycle. (b) Make sure each piston goes back to its initial position at the end of each operation cycle.

 F. Do a Dimension Inspection on the Brake Unit and Other Brake Components

Remove the brake unit (AMM 32-41-15/401).

Measure the components as shown in Fig. 602.

If the components are not in tolerance, repair or replace them (Fig. 602).
