 G.  Pressure Regulator
 (1)  The pressure regulator is in line with the hydraulic passages between the detent solenoid and the detent piston (which locks the actuator piston to the output crank). The regulator bypasses hydraulic fluid to limit the output force (autopilot authority) of the actuator when the unit is backdriven or stalled.
 10. Position and Neutral Shift Sensors__________________________________
 A.  The aileron position sensor, spoiler position sensor, elevator position sensor, neutral shift sensor and the A horizontal stabilizer position sensor are dual (two synchros in each unit) and are all identical and interchangeable. The B horizontal stabilizer position sensor is a single synchro. They are three-wire synchros with 14 volts ac 1800 Hz supplied to the excitation winding.
 B.  Aileron and Spoiler Position Sensors
 (1)  
The purpose of the aileron and spoiler position sensors are to provide an electrical signal relative to the surface position for feedback to the FCC's.

 (2)  
The aileron position sensor is located on the forward side of the main wheel well. It is attached to the aileron control quadrant shaft via a rod assembly and crank. The spoiler position sensors are attached to the No. 2 and 7 spoilers via a rod and crank assembly. The No. 2 spoiler position sensor is located at left wing station 335 and the No. 7 sensor at right wing station 335.

 (3)  
The sensors are cylindrical synchro units measuring approximately 5 1/2 inches long. There is a narrow (approx. 0.4 inch) splined shaft on one end for connection to the crank. The synchro and wire connections are on the opposite end which has a diameter of approx. 1.6 inches. Physical rotation of the synchros is plus or minus 140 degrees. All three synchros are identical and interchangeable.

 (4)  
The excitation used for the three synchros is 14 volts ac at 1800 Hz. The feedback to the FCC's from the aileron position sensor is 3 wire. Only two wires (X and Y) are used for the spoiler feedback. Each of the sensors are dual units with two synchro outputs (one for each FCC).


 C.  Elevator Position Sensor
 (1)  The elevator position sensor is a dual position sensor which provides the elevator position as sensed by the lower torque tube to the FCCs. The elevator position sensor is mounted on the lower right side bulkhead in the tail cone. The rotor is connected to the lower input torque tube.
 D.  Stabilizer Position Sensor
 (1)  The two stabilizer position sensors provide stabilizer position feedback to their respective FCC's. The stabilizer position sensors are located on each side of the elevator feel and centering unit. The case is mounted on the airplane structure and the rotor is connected through linkage to the stabilizer.
 E.  Neutral Shift Sensor
 (1)  The neutral shift sensor is a dual transmitter sensor which provides the position of the elevator neutral reference feedback to the respective FCC. Two electrical cables and internal separation maintains isolation between the two transmitters. The neutral shift sensor is mounted on the right side of the elevator feel and centering unit. The case is mounted to the airplane structure and the rotor is connected by a crank and rod to the elevator feel and centering unit.
 11. Stabilizer Trim Servo_____________________
 A.  The purpose of the stabilizer trim servo is to provide stabilizer inputs as a result of A/P automatic stabilizer trim or speed trim commands.

 B.  The stabilizer trim servo is located on the stabilizer jackscrew gearbox assembly in the tail cone. The trim servo consists of a nose-up relay, a nose-down relay, a speed change relay, a two-speed three-phase ac motor, a gearbox assembly with an electromagnetic clutch and an output shaft. Stabilizer trim control signals (trim up or trim down) are generated in the engaged A/P computer and are sent to the appropriate relay. When the autopilot is disengaged and flaps are not up, the speed trim system control signals generate stabilizer trim control signals. Actuation of a relay supplies 115-volt ac, three-phase power to drive the servomotor in the desired direction. An additional set of contacts of the relays complete 28 volts dc from the FCC to the electromagnetic clutch solenoid.
