CAUTION: DO NOT HOLD THE HEAT EXCHANGER AND VALVE ASSEMBLY BY THE INLET
_______ COLLAR. THE INLET COLLAR IS NOT A STRUCTURAL PART OF THE VALVE HOUSING. THE INLET COLLAR CAN BREAK AND CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE HEAT EXCHANGER AND VALVE ASSEMBLY.
(1)
Do these steps to connect the heat exchanger valve (valve) (6) to the IDG air/oil heat exchanger (heat exchanger) (23):
(a)
Remove the dust caps (covers) from the heat exchanger (23) and the valve (6).
(b)
Put the valve (6) on a workbench with the four-hole ducts to the bench
NOTE: The three end ports will point to you.

Put the heat exchanger (23) on the valve (6).
NOTE: Make sure that the three-hole tube bracket points to
____ you.
Lubricate the threads on the bolts (39) with engine oil.Use the 18 bolts (39), the washers (40) and the nuts (41) to install the heat exchanger (23) and the bracket (46) to the valveTighten the nuts (41) to a torque of 36-40 pound-inches (4.1-4.5 N.m).Do these steps if you will install a new heat exchanger valve (6): 1) ENGINES WITH SB PW4ENG 24-4;
Lubricate a new packing (52) with petrolatum white and
install it on the plug (53). 2) Lubricate the threads of the plug (53) with engine oil. 3) Install the plug (53) in the smallest port on the top of
the valve (6). 4) Tighten the plug to a torque of 65-75 pound-inches (7.3-8.4 N.m). 5) Lubricate a new packing (52) with petrolatum white and
install it on the plug (53). 6) Lubricate the threads of the plug (53) with engine oil. 7) Install the plug (53) in the smallest port on the top of
the valve (6). 8) Tighten the plug to a torque of 65-75 pound-inches (7.3-8.4 N.m).
9) Lubricate the two new packings (35) with the petrolatum white and install them on the servo fuel supply and the servo fuel return adapters (36).
10) Lubricate the threads of the adapters with engine oil. 11) Install the adapters in the last two ports on the heat exchanger valve (6). 12) Tighten the adapters to a torque of 110-120 pound-inches (12.4-13.5 N.m).

13) ENGINES WITHOUT SB PW4ENG 79-49; Install the valve drain tube (32) as follows:
a) Lubricate the threads of the valve drain tube (32) with
an antigalling compound.
b) Install the valve drain tube (32) in the smaller
adapter (26) on the valve (6).
NOTE:____ The valve drain tube must go through the hole in
the tube bracket on the heat exchanger (23).
c) Lubricate the threads of the jamnut (30) with engine
oil.
d) Connect the tube to the heat exchanger with the jamnut
(30).
e) Tighten the jamnut to a torque of 70-80 pound-inches
(7.9-9.0 N.m).
f) Tighten the tube coupling nut (25), at the valve (6),
to a torque of 90-100 pound-inches (10.1-11.2 N.m).
g) Install a lockwire on the tube coupling nut and the
jamnut.
14) ENGINES WITHOUT SB PW4ENG 79-49; Install the valve servo fuel return and supply lines (34, 35) as follows: a) Lubricate the threads on the tube nuts (for the valve
servo fuel return tube and the valve servo fuel supply
tube) with an antigalling compound.
b) Install the servo fuel return tube (34) and the servo fuel supply tube (33) in the last two adapters (36) on the valve (6).
NOTE: The tubes must go through the holes in the tube
____ bracket on the heat exchanger (23).
c) Lubricate the threads of the jamnuts (31) with engine oil. d) Connect the tubes to the heat exchanger with the jamnuts (31). e) Tighten the jamnuts (31) to a torque of 70-80 pound-inches (7.9-9.0 N.m). f) Tighten the coupling tube nuts (37 and 38) at the valve
