 (5)  
Do a test of the lightning protector.

 (a)  
Set the switch on the test set to TEST.

 (b)  
Make sure the OUTPUT ENERGIZED light on the test set comes on.

 (c)  
Turn the control knob on the test set clockwise slowly (so that the indicator needle shows an increase of less than 30 volts per second), until the indicator needle gets near the green band.

 (d)  
Turn the control knob on the test set clockwise more slowly (so that the indicator needle shows an increase of less than 15 volts per second), until the indicator light goes out.

 NOTE: The lightning protector starts to operate when the
____
 light goes out.

 (e)  
Make sure the lightning protector starts to operate between 250 and 270 volts.

 (f)  
Set the switch on the test set to RESET.

 (g)  
Set the polarity switch on the test set to NEGATIVE.

 (h)  
Set the switch on the test set to TEST.

 (i)  
Make sure the OUTPUT ENERGIZED light on the test set comes on.

 (j)  
Turn the control knob on the test set clockwise slowly (so that the indicator needle shows an increase of less than 30 volts per second), until the indicator needle gets near the green band.

 NOTE:____ When the light goes out, the lightning protector has
 started to operate.
 (l)  Make sure the lightning protector starts to operate between 250
 and 270 volts.

Disconnect the ground lead of the test set (gray lead) from the X2 terminal of the lightning protector.

Disconnect the test-pulse output lead (blue lead) of the test set from the X1 terminal of the lightning protector.

Disconnect the input power lead (red lead) from the 115V, 400 Hz source.

 Disconnect the chassis ground lead (green lead) of the test set from the airplane frame ground.

 Connect the airplane electrical lead to the X1 terminal of the lightning protector.

 E. Lightning Protector Test Procedure for each Generator Control Panel

 (1)
Make sure all electrical power is off (AMM 24-22-00/201).

For the generator 1 lighting protector test, open these circuit breakers and attach a DO-NOT-CLOSE tag.

 (a)
On the Generator -1 Power Center-Left panel, P514:
 1) C8013 - LIGHTNING PROTECTOR GEN 1 PHASE A
 2) C8014 - LIGHTNING PROTECTOR GEN 1 PHASE B
 3) C8015 - LIGHTNING PROTECTOR GEN 1 PHASE C

For the generator 2 lighting protector test, open these circuit breakers and attach a DO-NOT-CLOSE tag.

 (a)
On the Generator 2 Power Center - Left panel, P614:
 1) C8019 - LIGHTNING PROTECTOR GEN 2 PHASE A
 2) C8020 - LIGHTNING PROTECTOR GEN 2 PHASE B
 3) C8021 - LIGHTNING PROTECTOR GEN 2 PHASE C
