At any one time, a total of 11 crew alerting messages can be presented on the main display. Another total of 11 status messages can be on the auxiliary display, when the status page is selected. Also if there are more messages for display than can be presented at any one time, an overflow condition exists. An overflow condition is annunciated by a page number below the messages.
B. Warning Messages (Level A Condition)

Warning messages indicate an operational or airplane system condition which requires immediate corrective or compensatory action. When a level A (warning) condition is detected, its associated message is placed in an asserted A list in chronological order. The messages are displayed from the asserted list, with the latest occurrence on the top line of the display. When the detected conditions clear, the associated messages are removed from the asserted list. Any remaining messages move up to occupy the vacated lines.

Warning messages contain a maximum of 16 characters, and are red in color. Warning messages cannot be paged or cancelled.
C. Caution and Advisory Messages (Level B and Level C)
(1)
Caution messages indicate an operational or airplane system condition which requires immediate crew awareness and some prompt compensatory action. Advisory messages indicate an operational or airplane system condition that requires crew awareness for possible future compensatory action.
(2)
When a level B (caution) and/or level C (advisory) condition is detected, its associated message is placed in both the asserted and the noncancelled B and/or C lists in chronological order. The messages are displayed from the noncancelled list, with the most recent level B on top (below the last level A), and the most recent level C below the last level B. When the detected conditions clear, the associated messages are removed from the asserted and noncancelled lists. Any remaining messages move up to occupy the vacated lines.

Caution messages are a maximum of 16 characters and are amber in color. Advisory messages are 15 characters maximum, amber in color, and indented one character space to the right.

Caution/Advisory Message Cancelling
(a)
Pressing the Cancel (CANC) key on the EICAS Display Select Panel (DSP) clears the displayed caution and advisory messages from the display. These messages are also purged from the level B and/or C noncancelled lists. Messages which were not purged from the noncancelled lists will then be displayed.
(b)
If a page number was displayed, its number is incremented by one for each cancel operation. When all noncancelled messages are purged, the page number is cleared from the display.
(5)
Message Recall
(a)
Pressing the RCL (recall) switch on the EICAS DSP causes the noncancelled lists to copy caution and advisory messages from the asserted lists. These messages, now in the noncancelled lists, will be displayed on the EICAS.
(b)
When the RCL switch is pressed, a RECALL message is displayed. The message is removed from the display one second after the RCL switch is released.
D. Memo Messages (Level D)
(1)
Memo messages are crew reminders of the current state of certain selected normal conditions. When a level D (Memo) condition is selected its associated message is placed in an asserted D list in chronological order. The messages are displayed from the asserted list with the most recent level D on top. Memo messages are displayed on available lines, below the last advisory message. When the detected conditions clear, the associated messages are removed from the asserted list. Any remaining messages move down to occupy the vacated lines.
