BRINGING MODERN TECHNOLOGIES into
air traffi c management operations is not
an easy task. EUROCONTROL, in its 50 years
of existence, has witnessed the incredible
amount of energy needed to coordinate
at a European level the implementation of
common programmes.
The Single European Sky ATM Research
(SESAR) programme was launched because
all stakeholders, including policy makers
and industry at large, realised that the
status quo would endanger the sustainable
growth of air transport which is vital for the
European society.
Europe was not the only place to recognise
