design improvements, deployment of freeroute

It should not be forgotten that the DMEAN
eff ort also underpins the ATFCM element of
the SES ATM Research programme, which
provides the technology basis for the SES,
particularly in the context of network operations
and the network information management
system. “Network management
is about optimisation of the system,” says
Sultana. He fi rmly believes the CFMU, with its
extensive experience of fl ight planning and
airspace management, should move closer
to the airspace network design function that
is at the core of the SES. “There are a lot of
issues and plenty of debate and the CFMU is
very involved in it,” Sultana confi rms.
