 (1)
Remove the items which are necessary to get access to the air duct.

 S 038-002

 (2)  
Loosen the duct clamps or remove them if it is necessary to do the repair.

 S 038-003

 (3)  
Remove the insulation from the damaged area on the air duct if it is necessary.

 (4)  
Do these steps to repair the damaged duct:

 (a)  Remove the sharp edges of the damaged area on the duct with a file.
 NOTE: The damaged area must be smooth and round.

 (b)  
Rub the damaged area with the sandpaper until the area is not glossy.

 (c)  
Clean the damaged area with a cloth that is moist with the solvent.

 (d)  
Dry the damaged area with a clean cloth before the solvent can dry.

 (e)  
Prepare a patch that will make a 1.0 inch overlap on all sides of the damaged area.

 (f)  
Mix the adhesive fully.

 (g)  
Apply a layer of the adhesive to the damaged area and to the patch.

Put the patch on the damaged area while you apply pressure to it.

 (i)  
Hold the patch temporarily to the duct with the tape or string until the adhesive dries fully.

 (5)  Install the insulation which you removed from duct.
 NOTE: You can use the adhesive to attach the insulation to the

 duct.

Install the duct clamps.

 (2)  S 038-019Loosen the duct clamps or remove them if it is necessary to do the repair.
 (3)  S 038-020Remove the insulation from the damaged area on the duct if it is necessary.
 (4)  S 348-021Do these steps to repair a duct which is broken: (a) Remove the sharp edges on the duct with a file.
 NOTE:____ If the duct has too much damage, you must remove the damaged section and install a new section.
 (b) (c) (d) (e)  Clean the damaged area with a cloth that is moist with the solvent.Dry the damaged area with a clean cloth before the solvent dries.Align the mating ducts until there is a 1/8 to 3/8-inch clearance between the ducts.Apply one or two layers of the 3-inch wide tape around the duct joint.
 NOTE:____ The centerline of the tape must align with the duct joint.
 (f)  Apply one layer of the 1-inch wide tape around each edge of the 3-inch wide tape (Fig. 801).
 NOTE:____ The centerline of the 1-inch wide tape must align with the edge of the 3-inch wide tape.
